I wondered about this sometime ago. I remember many years ago, I bought a triple pack of TNA DVDs from 2005 that are censored because of the changes in the names of some wrestlers. Here is my go-to example:
Back in 2005, I remember finding a three-way dance match (because it was elimination rules) between Chris Sabin, Michael Shane (Matt Bentley; more on this in a bit), and Christopher Daniels. I remember when I watched the match, Michael Shane was referred to by that name throughout the entire match and during the video package. However, the DVD refers to him as Matt Bentley and it was clear that some of the commentary for the match was re-recorded. The video package also censored the name Michael Shane.
I think it also happened on my Hard Justice DVD with that tag match with Monty Brown and The Outlaw vs. DDP and Ron Killings. I recall that on that one, The Outlaw was now referred to as Kip James. Then you had the Gauntlet for the Gold match and there was some re-recorded commentary edited into the portions with The Outlaw. I also noticed that when Raven cut a promo for his match against Sean Waltman. I have a feeling that when Raven was censored, he addressed Waltman as "Syxx-Pac" or something like that.
So I was wondering. I noticed that TNA posted their PPVs on their YouTube channels. Are the names censored? Or are they direct rips from the DVDs with the censors?

The TNA+ streaming service has the original versions without the edits. Mike Tenay and Don West did new commentary for any match involving someone whose name was an issue.
On the subject of TNA DVDs, I did notice that when TNA+ has uploaded some of the compilation DVDs, instead of using the master, they literally just burned a copy to digital. One of them shows the DVD menu when the show ends while another one starts with the DVD menu and someone selecting "play."

They used Billy Gunn's name for his first appearances then quickly edited them to say The Outlaw.

They used Billy Gunn's name for his first appearances then quickly edited them to say The Outlaw. When he came to TNA, he was called The New Age Outlaw at first, then just The Outlaw. On the DVDs of the PPVs from that time, they had Tenay and West do new commentary for his matches to call him Kip James. He didn't actually start using the Kip James name until about a year into his run.
