A typhoon was going to hit NYC but it tripped over the coast. How shocking. Oh, that Uncle Fred!

It was so massive it was even reportedly felt in western Massachusetts. I’m in the eastern part of the state though so can’t say I felt it here. If we did experience it, I probably would have known since I’ve experienced earthquakes before (I used to live in California).

I heard about this from my friend in Philadelphia, but she apparently missed it.

We felt it at home in Chester County, PA. We thought our washer was in a spin cycle at first, but our laundry is upstairs and we were downstairs. It felt like a massage chair. Then my boss messaged our team (we work from home on Friday) asking if we felt it.

I heard it in Maryland (10 minutes from Baltimore).
Also heard the Key Bridge collapse (about 10 minutes from there) and that sounded much worse. But amazing that the NY quake made it here. There was one in Philly in 2011 I think and that shook a few things in the house.

The epicenter of that one was about 40 miles north of Richmond. It was also 5.8, so way stronger than this one (roughly 10 times bigger and 32 times stronger). Tremors from that quake could be felt up and down the eastern seaboard and even as far west as the Lake Michigan shore.

The one thing I do remember is having these tiered plastic shelves and a bunch of stuff falling off them. One was a Bruno Sammartino carded figure.

Today I talked to my mom who lives about five miles from Newark Airport. She was in a room with six other people and they all “got excited about something”. Mom “wasn’t sure what was wrong with them”. It was the earthquake. Everybody felt it but mom.
