I definitely felt my apartment in South Brooklyn shaking. Wasn't sure if there was an earthquake or something really wrong with the washing machine.

This is the obvious prelude to a kaiju attack.

I felt it for a few seconds but I couldn't tell whether it was my neighbors doing house repairs or if it was an earthquake until I got the phone alert.

You sure they weren’t just testing the pyro for the WM40 main event in Philly?

Well, since it looks like the quake didn't cause much if anything in the way of injuries, property damage or general disruption of everyday life, I'm gonna post this -

Felt it here in Kingston, NY. Thought it was just the rumbling of a truck nearby

Currently in Brooklyn. It was felt here. As I was at a hospital, I foolishly asked if the subway was directly underneath the building.

Native Californian here. A magnitude 4.8 is newsworthy and would rattle people on the west coast. It’s not the “big one” but could still at least cause minor damage. For it to happen in the northeast is quite significant.

Strongest quake in the area since the 1970s. Fortunately no reports of major damage or injuries.
Felt it here in central NJ. I thought it was an explosion at first. It was pretty disconcerting.

Earthquakes in the northeast aren't unheard of. I remember there being a small one in DC a while back. Had memes RIP-ing fallen over garden chairs and everything.
