We don't really have a thread talking about how the match itself was since it's buried in with all the booking discussion so hey, let's do that!
I think there was a lot of fun stuff in it and it did what it needed to but goddamn was it too long. Just opened up the replay because I wanted to watch the ending of Gunther / Sami again and from when Cody's music hits to when the show ends there's an hour and 22 minutes of the show left. Which I guess being fair the entrances themselves took up a full 20 minutes but still, way too much time spent.
I dunno, all in all there was some cool stuff for sure, it'll look great in video packages, but it was like a really good 20 minute match that took 45 minutes for some insane reason. Credit to Rock for doing way more than I thought he would though.
Also I kind of want a Cody and Seth tag title run sometime. The two of them click together super well.

Just wrote this in the rating thread but I was coming to ask whether it was Rock’s highest rated match ever as I had it at 4.5 stars and the 411 review I read had it at 4.75. Surprised to see some didn’t like it.

Fantastic match. Best part was Rock looked great. Wasn't blown up or got injured unlike Wrestlemania 29.
So he definitely had a lot left in the tank in small dosages.

I was shocked how ready and able The Rock was. Dope match.

To me, it felt more like an Attitude Era main event than most other main event matches. Count-outs being cancelled out, brawling around the ring, weapons, all that. And that's not even counting the fact that The Rock was one of the people in it.
It worked for what it was, though I would potentially agree with some of the people I've seen talking about it elsewhere that you could have probably cut the match in half and still gotten the same result. See Sting & Darby vs. The Bucks for proof of that.

There was a good 15-20 match in there, but unfortunately it went twice that. Much of the first half of the match felt like what you’d see at a house show where guys aren’t doing much.

I honestly didn't care for it... dunno why... it really didn't hold my interest at all.
Probably because it really had no stakes to it? They tried to make it sound like there was the stipulation but... it really didn't.
And yeah, it felt like it went on forever... with long stretches of nothing.

i have a feeling i'll like it way more on a second watch when i'm not so exhausted by having that and stand & deliver in the same day Yeah, I could definitely see that. I could see it being a lot better of a watch when I know going in how long it is and haven't already watched like nine hours worth of wrestling content before it.

It was a big, long dumb epic, which is exactly what I'm looking for in a WrestleMania main event. I enjoyed it too, as a throwback to a type of match that probably won't exist in a few years.

It was exactly what I expected it to be, and I quite enjoyed it. Probably not gonna be one I revisit very often, but it was fun to watch live.
Plus Rock ate a spear. Very few people sell a spear as good as The Rock, so that alone makes this match awesome

I thought it was a really good match. I did get bored during the middle section with Reigns dull, plodding offence.
But it had enough fun spots to enjoy--the opening brawl outside, the chaos with Reigns hitting Rock with a spear (which Rock sold perfectly!), the table spot/spear through the barrier.
Reigns just isn't very good. I stopped watching because I felt I couldn't be arsed watching a show centered around a guy I find boring and seeing him beat better wrestlers and guys I like more constantly, and this did little to change my mind. The same old, dully, slow, plodding style and sudden impact moves (superman punch, drive-by-kick, spear).

I kind of figure the idea behind it being that long was to A. make it feel like it'd justify ending the show, and B. probably to show Rock was in much better ring shape than a lot of us would have expected. If the idea is to sell him vs Cody one on one someday in the coming months, that's probably prudent if you want people to see that matchup as more than a nostalgia cashgrab or novelty.

It took a while to get going but was pretty much what I expected. I generally enjoyed it, though my attention wandered at some point.

I swore we were getting something else at the end when I saw almost an hour and a half was left on the run time of the replay. But no.
I enjoyed it for what it was, and as others have said there's a really good 20 minute match in there, but it just went on way too long.

I thought it was pretty good, it did what it needed to do.
I do wonder though what sort of utter insanity the Cody/Roman match is going to be on night 2.

There was a lot of hot moments in it but it took forever to get there. The opening staredown went nearly two minutes and it went on from there slowly.
Felt like a hhh main event where you could see the bits that worked but wish it was an awesome 15-20 minutes match not a meandering 30+.
