the entire match aside, this topic is for the rock specifically because i don't know about you all but.. i did kind of expect him to blow something out or have some type of mishap after so much time away and how big the dude's body is now.
for me he did a lot better than i was expecting. the match itself i have a good amount of issues with but his selling especially was S+. one of those cutters he took was like something straight out of the early 00's, same with the stomp and some other stuff.
the throat slash and acknowledgment before the people's elbow was just part of the good character work but overall i was really impressed with him in particular. he could've been sooooooooooooooooo much worse but he went nearly an hour out there and even with the breaks, he killed it. i expected something close to a disaster physically and that did not go down!

I watched the main event on my phone while I was riding home. I went in expecting nothing from him, so he exceeded that and thensome.

You could definitely tell when he got blown up but he did way, way more than I thought he would. He did well.

He def killed it. It was def kind of risky making them go almost an hour though.

Nothing spectacular but he was solid. Definitely better than the Cena matches.

He was pretty sensational I thought. Yeah there was a certain amount of smoke and mirrors to it, but that's pro wrestling.
He looked like a dude that could quite a few more of these if he wants to.

I love that he actually brought out the tights and all again, too. I thought maybe he'd match Roman in pants and have the weight belt around his waist, but he busted out his wrestling gear and a new BB title! Still took some bumps, looked great, and didn't seem like he was struggling through it too much. Granted, a singles match would expose him a bit more, but I thought he was fantastic out there and really did a great job working that heel persona into the match itself.

Honestly thought this was the best match he's had since his original 96-03 run.
I think playing the heel again has really re-invigorated Rock.
People can talk about whether he was gassed or not, but honestly if he was I didn't notice or care.

I watched a bunch of highlights, and read through the live thread. I'm surprised he was able to go so long, and do so much, but he didn't miss a beat from what I saw. Great performance.

I thought he was real good. Loved his selling of the spear. Completely outshone Reigns with his mannerisms and heelish activities on the outside--taunting Mama Rhodes, spitting water on Reigns and Cody, bullying the ref etc. He was great. I don't like face Rock at all. But Heel Rock is A+ entertainment.

Easily his best match since at least Mania 19.
It was honestly some of the best heel work of his career too. Incredible stuff.

He did a million times better than I thought he would. He reminded me why he was one of my favs as a kid.

That he didn’t break into pieces and actually made it to the end unhurt easily puts it in the “better than expected” category.

Yeah, better than I thought. He didn't do an awful lot of different things, but knew exactly how to work them in and actually sold a lot more than I expected.
That Rock Bottom through the table was a particular surprise.
I did have low expectations, maybe that helped, due to him getting so injured in the Cena rematch off not a lot apparently, and having put on so much extra mass (and very little ring work) in the years since then.
Having him in the tag was the smart move still, of course.

He didn't appear to tear his ab this time, so I give it two thumbs up.
In all honesty, the dude brought the A game, and the story of "the Rock will fire you if you don't let us cheat" was very fun for what it was. The whole match would have been better if it was about 30-40% shorter, but overall a great showing.

Who helped him in the training camp? I read Gallus, plus Bobby Roode and Michael Hayes…was there anyone else? Because if so, they need a raise ASAP, because he was ready and obviously in much better ring shape than the Cena matches
Smoke and mirrors aside, he did great especially for his age and how long he had been away.

It was a slower paced 4-man, so there was a degree of hiding his weaknesses. But he absolutely knocked it out of the park. Not in prime ring shape, but honestly not terribly far off like he previously was. Took some bumps, did a little chain exchange with Seth. Sometimes you get this hype and the as the match goes on, you the shine wears off and it ends up underwhelming. Last night, they kept it through the entire match. It wasn't perfect, but it did remind me of a proper Attitude Era main where the work was good but the story and the wrestlers are the star. Nothing wrong with that.

I read that referee Chad Patton was there too, so it's extra nice he got to ref the main event.
