So watching WCW in August and September of 2000, Bret Hart returns at New Blood Rising to help Lance Storm beat Mike Awesome but afterwards goes after Goldberg hitting him with a shovel and leaving him in the desert.
The follow up here is Bret cutting a Promo on Thunder talking about what he lost when Goldberg ended his career and bringing up how Turner's legal department is looking to "put a slug in his head".
Ironically enough Bret would be released in October.
But what was with this run here in 2000? Was Russo just trying to help Bret get back on TV before his deal ran out or was there suppose to be something more?
The promo on Thunder is crazy enough word verbatim what Bret still says today about Goldberg and his comments on being released are foreshadowed with his real release.
So what was the end game? Was Russo just letting Turner brass have it by having Bret air his grieveances on TV or was Bret possibly returning to the ring pending clearance?

Russo always was a big Bret supporter and I think he really wanted Bret to somehow magically be healthy enough to wrestle but it wasn't to be

Bret not being able to go out and have wrestling matches wasn't going to stop Russo from using him, because Russo didn't give a shit about wrestling matches. Shockingly, this is probably the best that Bret was used since he betrayed WCW a few months after his debut. He had some moments with billgoldberg that were reminiscent of '97 Bret and far surpass anything else he did in WCW.

I honestly don’t even remember the Thunder promo, I could’ve sworn his last appearance was at New Blood Rising

That promo alone you can hear the old Bret come out and its refreshing and way better than bipolar Bret who may or may not be in the nWo and may or may not be with WCW. I didn't til I watched a video of the build up to Goldberg vs Steiner. My guess was New Blood Rising was the beginning of what was to be a short final run in WCW for Bret. Yeah, a dumb segment where Bret and Goldberg conspired to take Russo out together with Bret blaming Russo for Montreal, only for Bret to clock Goldberg with the shovel and turn on him, freeing Russo and leaving Goldberg knocked out in the desert leading to the Thunder promo. Again didn't know either til I watched the Steiner/Goldberg build up.
