With the current story of the Elite getting their evil boss on and abusing their power kicking into full gear, what’s everyone’s general thought on Tony Khan installing a commissioner or GM character to counteract the EVPs’ authority? Would you be for another authority figure character or is it too much?

There needs to be one, otherwise weekly TV would just become a whole lot of… What was it that you lot kept calling WWE whenever the shows were heel-dominant with no regular comeuppance from the babyfaces?

Probably, yeah. The issue with doing this with Sting, for instance, is that there'd be an expectation of him facing the Bucks again, etc.

I really want it to be Sting lol he's probably the only guy under AEW contract who makes sense to be the commissioner.

Dodged a bullet that the Elite never booked Flip, or else we might be stuck with Commissioner Gordon!
...Hey, we already have the Hook signal.

At this point, Sting makes the most sense.
Or Big Stoke.

My favorite face commissioner of all time is probably Foley. I wonder who would be a comparable pick now - a legitimate former main eventer who can cut very good serious promos and also add comedy to the show.

I wouldn't mind seeing Sting in that role either.
Regal would have made a great choice if he was still there.

No more than an occasional appearance?
Fine.
The authority figure, heel or face, being central to booking was run into the ground completely for me over the last 30 years by WWE and I'm through with it.

Logical choice is sting, but what factors contributed to his retirement? If travel was an issue, he showed up about once a month anyway, then I doubt he would want to be weekly on screen character.

He wouldn’t. Occasional appearances on-screen for when shit gets real and most of his decisions being off-screen (“I just got word from AEW Commissione Sting that _______” said by the commentators) is how to do it.

I saw someone else on a different site suggest Bret Hart. I like the idea of that actually as I feel like a former wrestler carries more ‘weight’ than someone who never did (although there are tons of guys who are an exception to that). I’d be worried about him having to go back and forth with someone on the mic and length. I remember when MJF did his shtick to him on Dynamite or something and he really didn’t know what to say.
I can’t think of anyone else besides Sting who would really just be the perfect fit. I think it’s a perfect spot for a legend-type personality but all those guys from that generation are sadly aging and it’s hard to tell how they’d perform.

WWF had Jack "On the Take" Tunney.
AEW has Tony "On the Coke" Khan.
