I had assumed for the longest time that Splash Mountain was an opening day ride, but it didn't open until 1989!
This looks great, and I love Princess & the Frog so I'm glad it is getting more love.

For those hoping that Dr Facilier will be making an appearance during the ride, it's set after the movie

Will Gambit be apart of this? Bayou Billy. Only that'll make the ride double difficult to finish.

I haven't seen The Princess and The Frog but I'm still really interested to watch ride-throughs of this new, re-themed attraction. The animatronics I've seen pictures of look really well-done in terms of design.

What I'm going to miss about Splash Mountain was how they used the storyline to basically build up to the final drop like you were descending (and then, well, ascending, I guess) into madness the further you went, which got your adrenaline going before the end, followed by the Zip a Dee Doo Dah scene as the big cathartic release. Not sure how they're going to approach it with the new theming, but we'll see soon enough.

Was bound to happen one way or another. They have overhauled the parks so much that updating Splash Mountain was bound to have already been on the board already, currebt events just sped up the time table for it.

For those hoping that Dr Facilier will be making an appearance during the ride, it's set after the movie They had a Dr. Facilier (AND LOUIS) meet and greet during a night event we went to. Dr Facilier totally didn't work, because it was like a college student dressed as Dr. Facilier. God bless him, but you're just not going to have that Keith David voice gravitas. Maybe should have been a mascot character like Jafar instead of a face one.

Splash Mountain was both dated (in terms of the age of the animatronics and source material) and old (in terms of the age of the animatronics). I think a refresh of it was long overdue. I'm glad they opted to modify it instead of demolishing the ride altogether.

Disney archived it voluntarily and an entire generation know it only for its controversy.

It was an Eisner creation ... I mean it was also only called Splash Mountain because of the mermaid movie Splash and Eisner wanted to use it to advertise it... yes seriously... it was originally the "Zip-a-dee-do dah River ride."
