I was over on www.upcominghorrormovies.com and they have announced...that Rob Zombie announced his selections for Michael Myers and Dr. Loomis in the upcoming Halloween remake Michael Myers will be played by Tyler Bane, who played Sabretooth in X-Men. (A rumor I saw on another website has John Carpenter saying that Bane should lose 80lbs and do the role barefeet to avoid "looking like a giant.") Dr Loomis will be portrayed by Malcolm McDowell, a well-known actor that has been in as many good movies as crap movies. Any reactions? I like the idea of McDowell; and, Myers can be played by any big guy who can take direction. Should be interesting. I probably won't see it in theaters though.

I just hate the idea of this movie being remade at all. It was perfect and a horror classic, why the hell would you screw with that? Besides money of course.

McDowell was Alex DeLarge, so he's awesome in every way.

Well, at least it's in someone's hand's who has passion for horror movies. If it has to be done, Zombie is a good choice to do it, I think. I hope.

Read this a while ago at DreadCentral.com......and let me just say this: The fan reaction HAS NOT BEEN GOOD. Rob Zombie's name has become a vile epithet at a LOT of the horror boards.
And I can't say as I blame them (The Halloween fans, that is). I'd feel the same way if Hollywood were to get Uwe Boll to do a JAWS remake, and he cast John Malkovich as Quint and Michael Madsen as Brody, with Kristanna Loken as the Shark.
And yes, to the HALLOWEEN fans, what Zombie has done is just as bad.
Firstly, McDowell as Loomis: Not too bad, in my opinion, but they could have been more faithful to the original by going with someone who more closely resembles Donald Pleasence, in both terms of appearance and gravitas. Now don't laugh, but the first person that comes to my mind would be Michael Chiklis. We know he can do intense from his stints on THE SHIELD and THE COMMISH. And physically, he could hang with Myers believably, mano a mano.
Secondly, Mane as Myers: NO. No, no, no no no!!!!! I dunno how many times Zombie has watched the TEXAS CHAINSAW remake, but it appears to have addled his brain. Let me say this just one more time: Michael Myers is NOT NOT NOT the rampaging juggernaut of the horror genre. That title goes to either Jason Voorhees or Leatherface. They are the hosses who thunder in and rip you to shreds (with their bare hands if necessary!). Michael Myers is the inky shadow that melts out of seemingly nowhere and slits your throat or stabs the hell out of you before you know what hit you. There is a reason he's referred to as "The Shape" in HALLOWEEN's credits, and not "The Hulk". I shudder to think who'd play Freddy Krueger if Zombie was doing NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. ........HHH maybe?
No, I would have actually gone with someone a lot smaller to play Myers.....someone a LOT more athletic. Ray Park comes to mind, and no, I wouldn't have Myers doing Jujitsu. Park just moves with that fluidity that's important for Michael to have.

I wonder how exact the remake will be.
Will there be a Lorrie? If so, who wants to take a bet that she is played by someone with the first name that begins with "J" (Not because I have someone in mind, but because there is a dang lot of acting "J"s lately)?
Getting upset because McDowell doesn't resemble Pleasance is kind of a cheap complaint in my opinion.

Meh....as I've said on DreadCentral, I'm withholding my final judgement UNTIL/IF I see the final product. I liked DEVIL'S REJECTS. But I'm not so sure that Rob knows what he's doing with this.....I pray that he does, and that he surprises the hell outta me.
Wonder who ol Zombie's got in mind for the Laurie Strode role? Could it be Sherri Moon Zombie, his wife?

All I know about Zombie's scripts is that he CRTL+V's the F word every other sentence.
Good writing, that ain't.

This is what I love about horror fanatics. If the director tries to go in a different direction with a movie, then they're insulting the memory, but if the director tries to stay true to the material then he's just trying to make a carbon copy. I happen to have enjoyed both of Rob Zombie's films and I think he's a great horror director. He's got his own style, which is great considering all horror films are starting to look the same lately.

Which is all well and good.....but if he wants to go in a different direction, why not make his own movie or franchise? Why fix something that ain't broke? And I've got to say, being faithful to the original is far from making a carbon copy. You want to remake something that could STAND being remade, that's all well and good. But certain things, you just don't tinker with. Carpenter hit the nail on the head with HALLOWEEN. No real room for improvement in my eyes, or in the eyes of a lot of the staunch fans of the original. The performances are all top notch....the atmosphere, the writing, the direction......there's a REASON this film has stood the test of time, and is as revered as it is, and is not found in the $2.00 bin at Wal Mart. And by the way, you can expect the SAME fan reaction when the remake of THE BIRDS goes into production.

As a Horror fan, I'm torn.
One one hand, I wish people would leave original horror films alone, but on the other, I like that new attention is drawn to old classics.

Series wise
Friday (Paramount) > ANOES > Halloween > Friday (New line)
Opening film
Halloween > ANOES > Friday

Slasher films suck anyway. A remake won't make it any worse.
