I just hate the idea of this movie being remade at all. It was perfect and a horror classic, why the hell would you screw with that? Besides money of course. Count me in with this. Most remakes bite the bag and this one doesn't look like it'll be the exception. However, I gotta like Malcom McDowell. Though I'd probably be watching it and expecting HIM to turn out to be the killer at the end.

Meh....as I've said on DreadCentral, I'm withholding my final judgement UNTIL/IF I see the final product. I liked DEVIL'S REJECTS. But I'm not so sure that Rob knows what he's doing with this.....I pray that he does, and that he surprises the hell outta me. Wonder who ol Zombie's got in mind for the Laurie Strode role? Could it be Sherri Moon Zombie, his wife? I think Sherri would probably play the slutty P.J. Soles character.

I have only seen the end of House of 1000 Maniacs, and it seemed like a Texas Chainsaw Massacre spinoff. Maybe I am not being fair since I didn't watch the earlier scenes, but, in honesty, nothing at the end of the movie "inspired" me to watch the beginning.
I almost saw The Devil's Rejects due to the fact that DDP and Danny Trejo were in it, but in the end took an extra night to study for a test.
Whenever I see a thread about him on the movie boards I look at, it is usually down the middle between "Exciting" and "Irritating" with many, many, many different takes on those words.
I have the original Halloween on VHS (Hey Rorshach, I got it at Wal-Mart for $2.00 and it has special interviews with Carpenter at the end) and really like the film, although it was hampered by crazy sequels that killed Michael Myer's mystique.
Myer's could probably need a refreshing. This isn't just a remake of the original, but a (semi)chance to take the movies back to its original state of great atmosphere and scares.
I say, Good luck Mr. Zombie. No matter what you do, people will hate you.

Glad you could take the time out of your day to NOT address my points, and instead gloat over that fact. You find any 8 tracks in there? Maybe some BETA? I hear they have LASZERDISC for .59! OOOOOOOH! That proved me wrong........ Anyway, despite you missing my meaning ENTIRELY.......I still say HALLOWEEN is best left alone. Just like PSYCHO, just like TEXAS CHAINSAW.....and just like THE BIRDS......there's nothing that needs to be updated and or fixed about the original. GAAAAH! Sorry if it seems like I'm taking this out on you, but dammit I can't WAIT for the remake craze to be OVER/DONE WITH.

Hey now, some remakes are good.
I enjoyed Dawn of the Dead for what it was (IE, NOT the George Romero original. If you want to see that, BUY IT ON DVD! I know I have!), and King Kong was great (Though they could've cut out a good solid 20 minutes of Kong/Blondie looking back and forth in each others eyes) and, uh....um....well certainly there's more good ones than those, right?
Anyway, don't hate on remakes simply because they aren't the original. Remember when "Psycho" got remade, basically frame for frame AS the original? Everyone hated it!

I wasn't really responding to you, I just happened to see your comment about Wal-Mart and threw out my find...as a joke. Of course it was less since it was a VHS, that was the joke. I do have a nice 8-Track selection though. Anyway, I understand your point on Remakes, but let's face it: they make money. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake cost around 10 to 15 million and made 80 million in the US alone. The remakes usually don't add anything, but as long as they don't completely hurt the image of the original, I don't see a problem with them. Goodness knows, there will be people who prefer the remake to the original, despite whether "elite movie experts" hate it or not.

And they're certainly loaded with potential.
Look at how many of us were rabid at the thought of what would've amounted to a "remake of ECW"
It just turned out to be much more "Godzilla" than it was "King Kong"

This isn't supposed to be a strict REMAKE, though. Zombie keeps calling it a "reimagining", and that this is supposed to go into the existing canon. At least he's a horror fan, so I'm willing to give him a chance.
What I'm more afraid of is the lingering possibility that the movie production company that did the butcher jobs on Amityville Horror and Texas Chainsaw (which is associated with Michael F'ing Bay)will be remaking Friday The 13th. Oh yeah, that needs to happen. Like we need a remake of Gigli.

And the fact that he wants this to be part of the HALLOWEEN canon, yet to be an entrirely "different" movie is what is upsetting people. Look, I'm willing, as I've said, to hold back final judgement on this until/if I've seen it. But to me, you can't have your cake and eat it too. You CANNOT restart/reboot/reimagine a franchise, while still clinging frantically to the old canon. Either he reboots HALLOWEEN, and erases everything after HALOWEEN 2, which would be more of a sequel, or he reboots it from scratch, leaving the old canon alone, and simply calling this "Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN" and thereby establishing his OWN canon, his OWN story, and his OWN characters.

I think we have different visions of what Zombie may mean by "reboot".
I'm taking it as "the franchise has become a f***ing joke. I'm giving it a swift kick in the pants by changing the focus." Whether that be filling in some backstory, or taking it off in a different direction with Loomis and MM or whatever, I view it more as an attempt to breathe some life into a moribund movie series with a fresh perspective ... while still holding true to the original series. It is possible. It'll just be difficult.
Jed Shaffer ~As long as he doesn't pull a Jason Goes To Hell, he'll get points from me.
