So I'm playing Street Fighter Alpha Anthology for the PS2. I had beat Street Fighter Alpha 3 which unlocked Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper. I had beat every other game on the disc including Upper which then unlocked the hidden Hyper Street Fighter Alpha game . . . . I go to restart the Ps2 so I can play another game on the disc and it comes on saying that it cannot load the data. I go to check my memory card and it says that it's "corrupted data". What the hell happened? I did a little research and apparently data can become corrupted if you turn turn off the PS2 while it is loading or saving but I am positive I did not do this. Am I screwed? I'd really hate to have to play through all those games again to unlock Upper and Hyper. I'm pissed now.

yep, you're screwed. this has happened to me a few times with some PS2 games. That sucks. I almost wouldn't mind the challenge of fighting through all those games again however what is to keep this from happening again?

That used to happen with my No Mercy on N64 all the time. Hence, stopped playing it.
(i tried to take it back, but it was always sold out)
Do they have this game for Xbox? If so, you might be better off doing that.

just make sure that you save all the way through. if it persists, check your memory card. i had one that woulden't even save data for my GTA games for some reason.

Frag. This just happened to me yesterday with Soul Calibur III. I only had it for a week, but I'd unlocked so much stuff and I was having fun with Chronicles of the Sword. Apparently Gorath the Barbarian will never finish his quest.
And that also means no more Ninja Hitler.

If so, you might be better off doing that. No Mercy was originally released with a glitch that caused the saved data to just up and disappear. I had the glitched version too but luckily I had a Game Shark so I didn't lose all the unlockable characters, etc.

I think from now on I'm going to turn auto save off. It's possible that maybe it was auto saving when I turned it off but I was certain it was done.

This happened to me with Tekken 5 a few years ago. As far as I know, your only option is to delete the file and start over again.

Wrestlemania 2000 was a great game. My brother and I played it religiously. As such we awaited the release of No Mercy. In fact the first message board I ever joined was one for No Mercy. Then the game came out and it had this terrible glitch. Still a great game though.

Maybe I bought a newer version of No Mercy, because I never experienced that glitch.

I have an X-Port, so I always save important stuff like that on my PC.
You might want to look into getting one. It should be pretty cheap on eBay.

Short story - I was a finalist on my degree course the year GTA: San Andreas came out, around October. Not wanting it to be a degree-ruiner, I self-sacrificed and only played it on the weekends. So this went on for about five months, making progress slowly. Then I got to Flight School, couldn't do the first test. Got frustrated, said, "f*** it", and didn't play it for another five months or so. Finally got back into it, completed Flight School, progressed rapidly through it (as my education was now finished, and was waiting to graduate). I had all this money, property, three girlfriends, good stats, a haircut, a hot pair of shades and a jetpack. Life was good. Just before the final mission, I also bought a sweet pad near Madd Dogg's house. Come final mission: I died trying to escape the house after having killed Big Smoke. So I did as I usually do in such an eventuality - PAUSE - load from last save point. This way, I keep my weapons/armour, as you know. Only this time - it didn't load. It was corrupt! Needless to say I was so pissed off, that 10 months effort went down the drain, at the last hurdle...I went off gaming completely for a while.

I believe Jak X has corruptable data as well.
Soul Calibur III corrupts if you save anything on the memory card after Soul Calibur, but it's only the 'turn based' mode that corrupts.
