I think microsoft will address the problem VERY soon and probably fix it. it wouldn't surprise me the least if they talk about this during e3 next week.
I'm not a very big video game modder, and even I know the problem. a bunch of forums have talked about it, and it wouldn't surprise me if a couple of people have sent in letters complaining about the x-clamps.
the thing that makes this so sad though is that the 360 is a really good system and has the best variety of games for this generation of consoles.

MS has been denying it up and down and basically saying it's much ado about nothing. The system is known to have a much higher failure rate than the 33% estimated currently during its launch, and they did nothing. It continued to be an issue, and all that has been done is replacing devices and extending the warranty they have in place. Even recently they've basically pushed it aside and said it was no big deal, so I would think it's highly unlikely they do anything outside of replace people's systems when they're under warranty and maybe look at addressing it when (and if) they redesign the thing. Then again, MS may just be a student of built-in obsolescence and hoping to expand their position in the marketplace by purposely making things to break..... Also, I don't doubt the system is good when its working, but the library seems to be lacking variety, at least from my vantage point. Their games all seem to be shooters, racers, or sports games with nothing really inbetween.

Ok guys...enough with adding x in front of everything.
Also, shockingly, both the PS3 and Wii have less than 1% failure rate. Ok...so less than 1% isn't shocking for Nintendo, but for SONY?! Last gen, THEY were the ones with the 33% failure rate!
However, my 360 is coming up on being 2 years old in December, and the ONLY problem I've ever had was the red ring of death. You know what I did? I turned my 360 off, and back on again, and it worked perfectly.
Now if only both Nintendo and Sony released more games!
My game count for all three systems looks like this:
360 - 14 games(this is not including Xbox Live Arcade games, including those would give me 22 games)
PS3 - 2 games
Wii - 7 games(12, if I include my Virtual Console games)
Granted, when I go to college, I'll be taking most likely just my Wii with me.

I did have to send back my 360 but it's worked like a charm since then and since they didn't charge me for that i think i can forgive them a bit, but they really need to cut that failure rate down. Also I need to find a damn Wii.

33%? I don't know much about statistics, but wouldn't this be considered a good thing? Well there's only a 10% chance of that.

I don't have this problem and I don't know of anyone I know that has this problem. You guys must just not be worthy of the 360.
BTW I had mine for over a year

33%? I don't know much about statistics, but wouldn't this be considered a good thing? No, that's pretty much unheard of for any console. If those statistics are accurate, then even the PS2 is more reliable. Those numbers have to be inflated a bit though. If the problems were really that widespread, Microsoft would have at least attempted to correct them by now.

BTW I had mine for over a year I had mine for just over a year and it stopped working. Right after my warranty expire. 1% is pretty good. I've never heard of any PS3 problems. (but hey there not a lot of people with them) Mine works perfect. My PS2 never broke and I had mine from early 2001-2006.

I had 3 PS2's. 1 technically never "broke down" persay. It just had the faulty disk reader that couldn't read the blue-disks, so I got a 2nd gen one. That one actually did break down, but I had probably upwards of 2000 hours of play on it, and it wasn't in the best enviroment. My slim model has at least 500 hours, and plays like the day I got it(a year ago).

Just stick a couple of pieces of tape on the top of the disk on each side of the hole. That's only a temporary solution though( 2-3 years max). Eventually you have to take the system apart and clean it.

my roomate has had to send his 360 back twice, but that's probably because he keeps getting upgrades so he can play burnt games.
I'm worried about mine although I can't remember the last time I even played it

There's seriously a part called an "xclamp"? What, does EVERYTHING have to start with an x? Do they think this makes it edgy and cool? Jed Shaffer ~This is x-actly why I hate Microsoft. There failure rate is that damn high? Hope they fix it for free...

The only system I've ever had in my life that broke on me was my PSP.... and I'm pretty sure that's because my cat knocked it off the counter in the bathroom (by the way, the PSP was MADE for bathroom use) and it died about an hour later.
And I've had the Sega Master System (I was one of the few Americans that chose the Master System over Nintendo in the late-80s... hey I was little and the box looked cooler!!), original Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Gameboy, Nintendo 64 (shared with old roommate), Playstation 1, and PS2.
Am I just lucky or something?
