Might I ask why the "Sex with a Midget" thread was locked? I saw nothing in there violating the rules, so I'm just curious.

I got a question about the WTF topic that's pinned, One of the mods said "don't spam" but isn't the Raw, ECW, Smackdown and Impact weekly threads basically Spam? I mean it's not techinically spam but it's just a bunch of posts that say for example "Cena Sucks" or "OMG". I don't have a problem with them, I'm just thinking about your bandwidth.

On a serious note shouldn't the word "cocksucker' also be filtered? I mean it is just as offensive as f*** or bitch

I see what you're saying and yes, a lot of the Raw Threads are random comments. But there is also some serious discussion in there. We obviously can't stop people from discussing the biggest wrestling show every week and as long as the discussion is mainly kept to one thread then it's not that big a problem. If it the board is gonna crash then it will probably happen on a Monday night and there's not much that's gonna stop that.

On a serious note shouldn't the word "cocksucker' also be filtered? I mean it is just as offensive as smurf or pup There are a lot of phrases that are offensive and if we were to filter them all then not many words would be allowed at all. I kind of agree with you that cocksucker may be worse than b**** btw, but maybe general opinion may see it as a lesser phrase. I really don't know. Wow, 3 responses in a row. Where are all the Mods? Damn you all for making me actually do some work round here.

The cocksucker thing stems with a problem that has to do with the fact that if you filter a word like that that has a specific combo of concurrent letters, any word containing the same combo is gonna get the filter treatment as well. Say for example you're trying to talk about a heel being cocky ( say Randy Orton just as a f'rinstance), that'd get the filter treatment too.
So ideally yeah, you'd be able to get rid of terms that are just as bad ( bad being relative term when speaking about vocabulary of course, but I digress) as others that are filtered, but we work with the system we've got.

Can we have some examples of words that have the concurrent letters of 'cocksucker' in them that don`t actually mean cocksucker?

But isn't it possible to filter the whole term "cocksucker"? That way people could still discuss Randy Orton as a "cocky" heel. I mean, it's still possible to say that someone is "cunning" even though the first three letters of that word are part of a filtered word. If the whole phrase "cocksuker" were filtered then we could discuss "cockiness" or "suckers" all we want, right?

I agree that it sucks, but "thems the breaks," as they say.

We've been trying to cut down on pointless filters lately, but we'll look into that one. And with that, we've come to the end of the thread. Stay tuned for a brand new installment of Ask a Mod!
