I see nothing wrong with tribute bands as long as the real band is no longer around, they're good (duh), and they don't try to charge a crapload of money to see them. Plus it's the only way that younger fans who may have missed out a chance to at least get some experience seeing the music performed live.

I had a friend who seemed pretty obsessed with tribute bands. He took me to a few shows from bands like "Led Zepagain", a Neil Young tribute band (I forgot their name) and a Cheap Trick one just to name a few. The Cheap Trick show in particular was pretty funny because the band members were hispanic and the singer tried to duplicate Robin Zander's look. His hair was so bleached out he looked like a spaced-out Ric Flair ;D.

What about orchestras? They play music hundreds of years old. Perhaps they fall into the cover band category. You beat me to that post. Eventually people die.,so your favorite band will someday not exist. So tribute bands are like orchestras that keep old music alive. Might not be like the original thing, but it gives you a live glimpse of what it was like. Of course this doesn't work if the band is alive and active.
