As bad a shape as horror movies are in now at least we have a few good ones that give hope. - Dead silence - Land of the dead - 28 Days/weeks later - Saw (the first two, 3 SUCKED) You know I like Land of the Dead and all but.... Something about it just doesn't sit right with me, Big Daddy sucked for example, and I hate Horror/Zombie movies that rely on human stupidity and Seld-M-Break fences to move the story along. I'm not drawing hope from any of them. I liked them (didn't see Dead Silence or 2 and 3 of Saw), but they hardly give me hope for the genre. I'm looking more at more clever fare, like Shaun Of The Dead (I know, it's a comedy, but it's still got horrific moments), The Host, and Black Sheep to pull horror out of the doldrums.

Technically, the original DAWN OF THE DEAD has plot-points occur because of stupidity. From one of the heroes firing his gun at the bikers to another hero being damn wreckless when getting the trucks......its a point worth bringing up.

Dawn 78 has a ton of stupid things that out heroes do it's kind of annoying at points. It still feels like a better film then Land though even with Flyboy acting the fool and Roger taking chances that don't need to be taken.

While LAND is the lesser of the DEAD movies, it has something that most horror movies sadly lack these days: Talent and some smarts from the director, even if some convenient stupidity is written-in to move the plot along.

Wicker Man (with Cage) was one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life.

Off hand but what would be your review of Dawn '04? Me personally I thought it injected some new life into a dead genre (pun intended) it wasn't perfect, but it felt like a breath of fresh air in Zombie movies in general to me (even if it was a remake of a masterpiece).

But a lot of that comes from the personalities of the people, and the madness that the situation puts them in, more than it does with their stupidity. Roger gets cocky because he's beaten the zombies before, and he ends up screwing up and getting bitten. And Flyboy becomes threatened by the motorcycle gang because they're taking the things that they've made their own. And as it has been said before, if you had a horror movie where no one makes a stupid decision or mistake, then it wouldn't be a very good horror movie.

The original has Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward in it.
Why bother making it again? It could NEVER be as good.

Bump. The Nicolas Cage Edition of this movie is too funny not to make fun of. Poor Cage, those people pushed him to the limit. I watched that movie not six hours ago and am still laughing hard. Funny, because I remember very few details of the movie. I like when he starts kicking people, he had had enough. He kicked that one girl into the wall.

When that raven or crow or whatever it was pops out of that desk is a good one. Cause he's like "WHY WOULD YOU LET THEM DO THAT IT'S SICK"!? or something. What's the deal with that place anyway? They only sacrifice police or something? Super Hero types like Cage who HAVE TO FIND THAT LITTLE GIRL!?

Wicker Man (with Cage) was one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. I was physically angry after watching that movie. I gotta say: For a cop, his character was a pretty big moron. There were like 25 different times I would have realized something was horribly off and ended up fleeing

I won't watch anything with Cage.. he's such a shitty actor, and I can't take him serious. He really lays on the Elvis tone pretty thick.

Something I wrote at the Rifftrax forums: Let's go down the list of what would have to happen for the evil bee women's plans to work.
1. Willow would have to be sent out ot have a relationship with Cage, then leave him (and would you trust Willow to even remember her own name?)
2. They would have to hope that Cage would be the one to find the doll on the side of the road, and care enough to pick it up and give it back.
3. They would have to have a car crash without killing the two women inside OR Cage.
4. They would have to hope that Cage would be emotionally affected enough to want to save another girl
5. They would have to hope that Willow could convince Cage to help her out even though she screwed him over earlier
6. Cage would have to go BY HIMSELF to the island
7. You would have to set up a series of elaborate traps and scams in order to make him continue to search for the girl
8. You would have to hope he didn't notice the giant Wicker Man statue and start to ask questions about it
9. You would murder the pilot, even though you could have just used him for the sacrifice in the first place
10. You'd take the bullets out of his gun and somehow hope that he, a trained cop, won't notice that his gun is lighter
11. You allow Cage to put on a stupid bear suit and snatch the girl just so you can tell him that it was all a ruse
12. You then take him and break his legs and pour bees on him, then burn him alive. ALL OF WHICH YOU COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT DOING ANY OF THIS OTHER CRAP.
13. You would have to hope and pray that a missing cop, who told everyone where he was going, wouldn't be searched for.
14. Oh, and worst of all, you'd steal his tapes. HIS TAPES I TELLS YOU. Arrr!
