www.thehollywoodnews.com/artman2/publish/movie_news/They_re_remaking_The_Wicker_Man_again_05080710.phpRobin Hardy, the director of the original WICKER MAN, and not the dire Nicolas Cage remake, is writing and helming COWBOYS FOR CHRIST, a 're-imagining' of THE WICKER MAN which uses the same story, against a different backdrop. The rather cool news is that Christopher Lee, who starred in the original, is set to star in this also! Moviehole reports: Starring Christopher Lee and Faye Dunaway, the film tells of a Christian singing star and her chaste fiance, a Texas cowboy, who travel to Scotland for a music festival that is merely the curtain-raiser for a horrific pagan ritual of sacrifice and murder, and it's uncertain if the power of the Americans' Christian faith will be strong enough to survive the assault of the pagans. So....let me understand this... The Wicker Man was remade last year with Nicolas Cage which was an adaption of the film. So the director wants to remake his film from scratch again...with the same actors and story as he did before. Here's a question. Why didn't he just do that in the first place?

I would imagine he is trying to wash the stink off the original it picked up off the remake, by showing it can be remade the right way, and it wasn't just a tired concept.

Because the studios wanted nothing to do with Hardy's original, I'm guessing. And if it wasn't for that, we wouldn't get the mental image of Nic Cage in a bear suit running and punching out a woman. Actually, I think this was something that Robi was talking about while the Wicker Man remake was being made.

As long as there's bears punching chicks again, I'm there.

Man, the Nic Cage WICKER MAN remake was dog s***. Seriously, what the f***?
But yeah, unless my memory is fuzzy, he crapped on the Cage-remake last year. Maybe he wants revenge of sorts, by showing how to do it.

I just realized something with Nic Cage's last few movies, all those stinkers.
Is he the new Kevin Costner in terms of consecutive-stinker streak?

I think Nic Cage has far surpassed Costner in terms of rotten flicks

LOL. I just saw that movie just now. (the Nick Cage edition) I love when he's running around karate kicking people near the end. Strange movie but there's so many things that beg poking fun at. I enjoyed it when treated as a comedy.

The sad thing is, the material does not lend itself to comedy per se, especially the ending. The fact that the makers of the remake inadvertently turned it into a comedy really speaks volumes to where remakes are right now.

As bad a shape as horror movies are in now at least we have a few good ones that give hope.
- Dead silence - Land of the dead - 28 Days/weeks later - Saw (the first two, 3 SUCKED)

Something about it just doesn't sit right with me, Big Daddy sucked for example, and I hate Horror/Zombie movies that rely on human stupidity and Seld-M-Break fences to move the story along.

I think Nick riding around on that bike hurts his badass credibility a little. Also, I'd have never guessed the wicker man was in fact a giant wicker man. Talk about a plot twist.
