Madison, what exactly is your job with Marvel? It sounds pretty cool. I'm on the staff team that writes the various Official Handbooks and "Files" books (the ones kind of like Handbooks, but usually told from one character's perspective). Beyond that, we research character and story history for writers and editors when they don't have the material, and occasionally proofread books for continuity errors. We also sometimes help track down and provide the material for the Essentials line when it's unavailable in-office. Very occasionally, we're called up to supply writers with background characters they aren't familiar with. All those weird-ass characters in Civil War that absolutely no one recognized? That was us.

Madison, why are my nether regions so damn itchy? You forgot to wash all of the tabasco sauce off last time you knocked one out.

Madison, Can I name my first child Gordon Chumway? No, because your first child's name is already Alawiscious Beckenfold. There's a very pissed-off one-eyed woman with two lawyers and a paternity suit looking for you.

Does she know my real name, or does she think its Lance Manly?

Does anyone at Marvel realise what a licence to print money they're wasting by not releasing replica Willem Dafoe portraits as seen in Spiderman 3

So do you work from home, or do you have set hours that you have to be somewhere? Home. Wonders of modern technology and all... How do you manage to stay motivated? If I got to work from home, I had better be working for wrestlecrap.com or a sperm bank, because that is about all that is getting accomplished.

Been doing this for right at two years now. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's just something that has to be done.

(If you don't mind me asking) Long, kinda stupid story, but.... I do some amateur work for a site called the Marvel Appendix - www.marvunapp.com/Appendix - it's a fan site that catalogs the really obscure characters. Around summer of 2005 I was talking to one of the main guys there about some books Marvel was about to publish that were reviving their old 1950s giant monster characters. I joked with him that since they had so many of these revivals coming out at the same time, they should do a Handbook about them. About a week later, he e-mailed me that he bounced my idea off one of the main guys at Marvel, who liked it, and they asked me to do it since I was familiar with the characters. I must have done okay because when I was done, I was brought into the regular Handbook team.
