I own Grandia II and thought it was awesome.
Played the Skies of Arcadia demo and thought it rocked too but never played it in full.
I say Grandia II for now having played it in full, but I hope eventually I can get the Gamecube version of SoA and find out for real.
But yeah, to me Grandia II had an unbelievable story to it. The twist concerning Valmar near the end...I had never been so shocked by a happening in a game ever (I knew of the infamous killing of Aerith or whoever in FF7 before I played it) and wasn't until the ending to MGS 3.
The story still stands as probably my all time favorite in a game, bar none.
Plus Melfice was pretty badass...hmmm...need to remember that for an avatar someday.
Wish I knew were a copy of Grandia III was for the PS2...I would LOVE to give that a go.

I owned Grandia II on my first go-around with the Deamcast. Played it twice thru and loved it both times, very enjoyable game. Great graphics, decent storyline, but excellent gameplay (unique battle system).
Right now I'm on my second go-around with the Dreamcast and I bought (and played thru) Skies of Arcadia once already. Again, excellent game. Better storyline, same old battle system as any other RPG, but the ship battles added another element to the game.
It's a tough one, but I'm gonna say Grandia II because of the battle system. It rocked on so many levels that, even with the crappy storyline, it was still good enough for me to play it twice.
