Anyone work like real early in the morning? Maybe 12-8 A.M or whatever. When I get a job Im deff gonna try to do that. Cause I mean, was just thinking. You work from normal 9-5 right? Get up at like maybe 6:30, dont get home till sometimes 6. Thats like 12 hours gone. Then you may spend like 6 hours sleeping. Thats 18. AND it seems like theres alot less freedom. Yall know what I mean? Get home at 6 a and your like "I gotta do all this, same stuff, then make sure I get into bed a "decent hour". Then wake up and know this whole long day is ahead of you.
I may be wrong but I think the Graveyard shift would give you alot more time and alot more freedom. Say I worked from 11-7. Would get home at 8, lay down, and be up around 1 (always wake up then if I stayed up). And when you wake up on your own, your pretty much never tired or groggy, but waking up at 8 by an alarm clock? Pffft, now thats a bad way to wake up, cause no matter what your always gonna feel a little tired. Then I got 10 hours to do whatever, whether its alwys cool stuff or nothing. Bills, fun, whatever. Still alot more time and fun.
I mean I know theres a bigger chance of crime maybe, but meh. I mean it justs like its more for me then some boring 9-5 job doing the same thing and never having no time for yourself.
So any of yall work the graveyard shift?

if that's how your body operates than go for it.
I know a lot of people though that, once the sun goes down, they're out and when it comes back up they're ready to go. They can't stand being out late and love to be up and out as soon as possible. Everyone's a bit different.
in terms of sleep i prefer a graveyard cause i much rather sleep until 2-3 cause i just seem to sleep better. but in terms of work i actually love getting up earlier. I've been working 6-2:30 most of the summer, so i've been getting up at 5:30. sure it's early but i'm done by 2:30 and it gives me plenty of time to unwind and do what i need to. the only thing that sucked was that i didn't get to talk to certain people as often as i would have liked cause i was always asleep before they were around.

As a man who works 12 am til 8 am I can tell you that it's no walk in the park.
But if you can adjust to the schedule and maintain a normal life then go for it. I miss my girl alot as she is at work when I am home and vice versa we see each other for short periods then go on our way.

I think being up for a while and then going to work to go home to sleep is a better schedule than working and tiring yourself out before going home to rest.

eh see i need time to unwind after work. when i first started my job at school i worked 10-3 basically. but by the time i got to my dorm, showered, and unwound it was close to 4:30-5 and i had to be up for classes usually around 9 or 10. in hindsight i have no freakin clue how i pulled it off but i did. so i would prefer to go straight to work then come home rather than be up. I just don't feel as productive the other way.

My mom's BF used to work Graveyard at the hospital for years. Now he works das. It really just depends on how your body can make the transition.

I used to work a lot of late shifts. Like 11pm - 6am for while. The best shift I ever worked was 5pm - 1am. You can get up at 12 and get everything done before you've got to to work. I'm more awake during the night so that kind of pattern has always suited me best. It kills your social life though because you've got to work when all your friends go out.

Part of it depends on what type of work you do. I can give you two different examples:
I used work midnights for a security company. I had to sit in a six by six guard tower and wait for trucks to come by. There would only be a few, and I all I had was a cheap little radio that barely worked. That really sucked.
I also worked for a painter on overnight shifts. We'd start about 9 and leave around 3 or 4 and still get paid for a full day. We pretty much did whatever we wanted.
The best part is when you're going home in the morning. While everyone is stuck in traffic on their way to work, usually you can just fly home, laughing all the way!
Would I do it again? If the right opportunity came by, I absolutely would.

I worked from 1 AM to 9 AM at a video store for years. There were tons of drunks, juvenile delinquents, trouble-makers, freaks and jerks from 1 until 3 or 4. Then it was dead quiet until about 7 AM so I could get cleaning done. Then the morning "drop off movies as I go to work" rush started.
I would wake up at about 10 PM and go to sleep about 1. The only time I would see my friends is when they would stop by work, and then they're too drunk to talk to. By the time the job changed to evenings 4 PM to Midnight, most of the guys had moved out of town.
But I could watch pretty much anything I wanted. I must have watched every horror movie there, plus most of the sci-fi section.

I work the graveyard shift. I wake up at 4, work at 9:45, get out at 5:45, then get to sleep at seven. So I have five hours of free time. But for those five hours I'm very tired, because my body can never adjust to sleeping in the day. It seems like I only get 2/3 of the sleep I should have even though I sleep 1 more hour than usual.
Some people may enjoy it, but I'd prefer first shift.

I start work generally at 3:30 in the morning and depending on how much there is to do an generally there until around 9:30 or noon. What I do is take a nap during the day (usually around 3 hours) then get about 4 hours of sleep at night. I still get my 8 hours of sleep a day, I only cut it in half and do it at 2 separate times

I've done Graveyard only a few times because people failed to show up for work. But it's hard for most people to adjust to it, I may have to do it at some point.
Myself, 2nd shift is grand. Wake up at 9 or 10, gets the things done that need to get done (cause places are open), go to work, then come home and stay up for a little while longer.

I used to work from 10pm EST to anywhere from 7am to 10am. Lemme tell ya, it's not as much fun as you'd think. You wake up tired and go to bed exhausted. I'd go to bed around noon and wake up at about 8 or 9pm, that was the whole day gone. And I'll tell ya somethin' else, there ain't shit to do between 10am and noon on a weekday.

I thought this thread was going to be about the Stephen King story/movie about the giant rats, lol. Might be a good idea to remove the quotation marks from the thread title.
