The Legion of Doom thread that got us talking about superfriends and their bad animation reminded me of this- If you've never seen these animated shorts that were produced in the forties you're missing out. Excellent animation especially for the time. One of the best portrayals of the Man of Steel on film even to this day, these shorts were awesome.
I was able to pick up both volumes at Wal-mart about a year ago for like a dollar piece, presumably because they're so old. It'd have been a bargain at ten times that amount to my mind.

You got them at that price because they're crappy prints in public domain.
The restored versions (found only on that monstrous 14-disc Superman set released last year) are light years better.

I may have to check that out. Still though, for a buck a piece, I couldn't complain. Like I said, quality stuff.

And that kept me busy for a whole weekend after Christmas. The prints are REALLY clear, and clean... I was impressed.

What you bought: Restored back to its original state. Not doggin' on ya bro, promise. Hell, I've bought dozens of tapes and DVDs with those same prints on them. Just wanted to make you aware that better is out there.

Loved them as a kid, and when people say "the music from Superman," I hum the Fleischer tune of DUM...dum-da-dah!, not the (great) John Williams score. Notice that the key dramatic beats of both scores scream "Superman!"

Nah, I was aware the actual picture quality wasn't up to par, I may def. have to get the restored versions. I was mainly voicin my love for how awesome the flicks themselves were.

Indeed. Good stuff, even if they were too early for any real villains to have been around in them.

True, still though for the time period I'm still amazed how much of a budget they got etc

I may have to check that out. I highly recommend it. Even with Superman IV, it's well worth the price for Kryptin. Yes the Fleischer Superman cartoons kick major ass. That's one thing DC has always had over Marvel, better cartoons.

What made them so amazing was the Rotoscoping that they did. For those that don't know what Rotoscoping is it is a technique where you animate over live action film frame by frame, if i remember correctly Fleischer invented the technique. That is your animation lesson for the day, I didn't go to animation school for nothing. lmao

BATMAN: TAS was heavily inspired by the Fleischer toons. Its like one of those obvious things I should have always assumed or known...but I didn't.

More superhero films in general should be inspired by them honestly.

Yeah your right, I love BATMAN: TAS, I still watch it when they have it on boomerang since cartoon network don't show classics no more thank god for boomerang!!! Thou cartoon network does own both stations lol
