I didn't get it when I first saw it either, probably because I was seven at the time, but coincidentally I saw it on TBS about five years ago and fell in love with it. It's one of my favorite comedys.

this film is grossly underrated. i personally think its one of my favourite Jim carrey movies.
i think the reason it is underrated is that it was the first comedy jim carrey did, that had a more darker humour in it than ace ventura, the mask, or dumb and dumber.
i didnt like it the first time i saw it, for that very same reason. i was like 11 or 12 at the time, so i didnt get the humour in it. when i watched it again years later, i found it to be very good

You know why THE CABLE GUY got such a bad rep?
Because it was advertized as another "butt-talking" Jim Carrey comedy, and people got peeved that it was more of a fun dark comedy from director Ben Stiller (even if I hate his on-screen comedy schtick).

This movie actually turned into kind of a cult classic with my friends after I showed it to them and changed their minds. Nobody can ever deny Cable Guy of it's greatness.

You know what would have been interesting? What if the movie wasn't hated? What if Stiller was allowed to direct/write more instead of focusing on his on-screen career to work in Hollywood?

Every time this film is brought up I must bring out my favorite quote from said movie, "Hey, what's the story with our chicken, man?". He also goes on about eggs and crap, but the chicken bit has been with me since I saw it at theater. lol that good. but the best part to me is. "Hey, Can I get a fork and a knife?" "Dude, there were no utensils in Medieval Times. So there are no utensils at Medieval Times. Now would you like a refill on you Pepsi?" "They were no utensils but there was Pepsi?" "Dude, I got other tables."

Why is The Cable guy never on TV? TBS plays it like once a year at 1 in the morning. Every other Jim Carrey movie gets played... It was all right. Not as popular as his other movies, so it doesn't get as much play.

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

I liked the Cable guy. I prefer it to Carrey's usual slapstick stuff from that time

"Judd Apatow 'ghostwrote' it, and took it very hard when it tanked back in the day. He likes it now though, cuz of the cult following, and the fact that he met his wife (Leslie Mann) on the set." - Mini-Recap of his interview on Howard Stern (5/21/07)

I loved that movie. One of my favorites of Carrey's, easily. Good thread question really. Why isn't it on TV more often?

Jack Black was in the greatest film ever produced, 1993's Airborne.

He also goes on about eggs and crap, but the chicken bit has been with me since I saw it at theater. I love that! Then he finishes talking about himself and asks Robin about her job or something, she talks for like 5 seconds and then he says something like, hold that thought for just a second, I have to hit the head, I'll be right back. Im interested though. Then he gets mauled in the bathroom

Way under rated in fact I would go as far to say it could be Jim's best movie

Love the movie...people were probably expecting another slapstick comedy rather then a more darker one, so I can understand why people don't like it very much.
1. It's the only movie involving Jack Black I can watch 2. Full of memorable quotes, many of which I still use to this day.
