Now, I've received several jury duty notices over the years, and ignored them all. Mainly because they have the wrong name on the summons. Second, how could they legally prove I even received it?
I honestly don't feel I should have to serve if they can't even get the right name on the summons.
But now, I'm starting to think they will smurf me up if I keep ignoring them.
Am I right?
I seriously cannot afford to take time off, and I'm not losing money over damn jury duty.

You do get paid(not much money but still)when you serve on jury duty. I don't like it either, and I served once and the only time I was actually selected, I knew they guy, so that got me out of it. How long have you been ignoring them?

I was summoned once when I was 18 or 19 or 20. Don't remember. I was bouncing around between so many homes at the time tho I just tossed it and never got summoned again.
What I did is apparently illegal so don;t anyone do what I did.
Haven't received anything about it since tho.

Just tell them that you're prejudiced against everything.

Just ring them up and tell them you are an out and out racist, this will get you off jury duty as they need unbiased people. (Worked for a builder we had who was called up but couldn't afford to take time off his work)
Although I am of the belief that everyone should be forced to go and do it, as it's what makes the courts work.

Fr the record, I don't believe that civic duty bullshit-I have a job and somewhat of a life to deal with, take volunteers before you come f***ing with me, there are people who eat that shit up, and hold off on a decision so they can stay in a hotel for a couple days

I have been twice. First time I was dismissed due to me being an indignant jerk. Where I clearly said I could not be impartial because if some one was stupid, it was largely their own fault(and this case feature raging stupidity).
The second time I had the flu, really bad. Got there at 7 am. Got selected for a room at 8. Out of 24 people I was 22nd screened. I am falling out of my seat, dying until after 5pm waiting through this.
Finally I get up there and the judge looks at me. Asks me how I feel. I look up and go "I have been better". She told me to get out of there and apologized for making me sit around all day.
And yes they will get you hard and fast for ignoring jury duty. You will have to report. But chances are you wont be picked. Unless you have a reason like being a business owner, sick family member(and my dad was dying of cancer, and I didn't get out of it, if that tells ya anything), or you are involved in a trial yourself. yeah you are on.

How long have you been ignoring them? Basically forever. I've probably ignored about five of them. They always get my name wrong, so I never worried about it. But for some reason, this last 'failure to appear' notice has me worried.

The Larry David trick of telling them you're prejudiced against everybody is a tried and tested winning method.

You might be able to use this as an excuse, but sooner or later it'll have to be taken care of, I hate to say it, but you might be better off if you clear this up yourself, rather than waiting for them to figure it out-because they probably will

George Carlin had a good one-"Tell em you'd be perfect for jury duty because you can spot a guilty person a mile away"

I got called into jury duty once....luckily I had college courses at the time and that got me off. It'd be cool to do once in life, but not when I was 19!

Oh, and I got 10 bucks a day for mine. Which was parking and 5 bucks.
Still the most honest money I have made in a day.
