Any other fans of this show besides me? I know a lot of people who've never seen it think of it as just a prison show with gay rape scenes...but in reality, it's a pretty complex drama throughout the entire series...
It reminds me a lot of a wrestling in the sense that everyone on the show has a history with each other do to being around each other all the time...and they all have there own little fueds and such...
I admit that some of it can drag along, but overall it's an action packed, dramatic, realistic look into a Maximum Security prison full of interesting and unique "stereotypes" and by that I mean, people who are suppost to be labeled, but are actually much more than they seem...
My favorite characters and why are... Ryan O'Reily- He's just a cool guy, and sneaky when it comes to getting things done...
Omar White- I loved his struggles to stay clean and better himself despite all his smurfups...
Kareem Said- I didn't care much for him at first, but his struggle with his religion and his true feelings made for good TV...plus the guy who plays him is a great actor...
Vern, Robson, Guerra, Beecher and others get nods for being as complex in there own rights...
Anyway, just wanted to find out if any other Crappers found this show to be as good as I do...*and I got my girlfriend into too, I think she enjoys it more than I do now*

I've only seen a few episodes, VERY late at night over here, so I don't have much of an opinion on it. Seemed like pretty damn hard hitting, deep stuff though.

Some of the shows, like the IRA bomber and the aging drug were just silly, but for the most part, it's one of my favorite shows.
Way too much rape, though.

There's actually not too much rape, though I guess any rape is more than most shows...and yeah, some of the storylines were pretty silly indeed...like Luke Perrys reverend character "astral projecting" himself to Jazz... But there is enough of realistic drama and comedy to make up for those kinds of things...

One of my favorite shows ever. The O'Reilly brothers were awesome. Alvarez was my favorite character though, he tried hard for redemption. Actually the show didn't have any bad characters, everyone was great.

Some weren't as strong as others, and I felt that they killed off some people too early (Kenny) But I did like how some guys who were just kind of in the background for the first few seasons began to develope into there own characters (Guerra, Robson, Harif) Plus the good thing about a prison show, an endless amount of new characters coming in!

Adibisi (Sp?) FTW.
Crazy ass black guy that basically ruled parts of the prison.

Yeah, that poor guy couldn't win for losing. I liked this show, but had to catch most on reruns during visits to the folks as I don't have HBO (and wasn't paying for it just for one show). Wicked good viewing, though. The "musical" episode was an interesting one. I especially like how Law & Order became sort of the Halfway House for Oz. Those two shows were almost sharing a cast sometimes. Which is funny since JK Simmons was the big, evil Nazi on OZ and the court-ordered psychologist on L&O. Oh, for a cross-over episode. LOL

Not as strong but still good, and I agree about killing them off so soon. Supreme Allah was pretty cool but taken out before they really fleshed him out.

In college I had a group of friends with which I watched every single episode ever made over the course of a semester. It was a REALLY good show. It was extremely violent, but it was real, and the deeper ideas and meaning that you got by way of Augustus Hill's narration were always interesting to ponder.
Some highlights, in my opinion, were... Ryan O'Reily was a diabolical genius. I loved to watch him manipulate the entire prison to meet his needs.
Miguel Alvarez always made me sad. You could tell that deep down he was a good guy, but he was just human, so very flawed and unable to overcome his situation.
And I loved the Beecher/Keller dynamic. Some people were probably put off by the homosexual fact of their relationship, but I loved watching the drama between them. Love, hate, violence, redemption. And around and around in circles. So interesting.
But, yes, in summary, I liked the show a lot.

I only ever saw one show, and about half way through it, a stage appeared and this guy started singing and dancing. I didn`t know what the hell was going on and didn`t bother watching it again.

Pretty awesome show, although the rape/male nudity was a bit much at times. I still need to watch all of Seasons 1 & 2 from start to finish, though, I'll probably buy the DVDs or catch the episodes I never saw on HBO On Demand if possible. I thought the final season got a bit too insane with the killing off of longtime characters, though. Especially the final episode, which really threw a monkey wrench into the possibility of an Oz movie. Oh yeah, and the Jerry Seinfeld/Oz cross-over SNL sketch is the thing legends are made of.

Oz is phenominal! I saw season 3 on demand when i lived with my parents and have been hooked ever since. I just bought and watched seasons 1 and 2, just amazing. and i got my boyfriend into the show, he loves it. i wish i had more money so i could snatch up the rest of the seasons and have a marathon, but alas, i have none. i also got this for $3 at job lot, but i don't want to read it and spoil the rest of the show for myself ahhh i want to watch it now. hbo has had some amazing series. rome is incredible too.
