I dunno.
Doesn't seem to pack a punch anymore. I always considered it "the b-word", at least as a kid, along with bitch.

I don't believe in cuss words ... to me, they don't exist. They're just words.
But, in the media, I think it's become more accepted.

I don't think it ever really was. It was just one of those words considered unnacceptable for use in mixed company. Not really a true member of the "Seven dirty words" gang.

I consider "Bastard" to be on Cuss Level 1, along with "Damn", "Hell", and "Ass". "Bitch", "Cock", "Asshole", and "Slut" are on Level 2, followed by "Shit" and "f***" on Level 3, then you get the really nasty the ones like "c***" and "Motherf***er" on Level 4.
I'm banned, aren't I?

Bad word? Yes. Like, I wouldn't have wanted to say it in middle school around the principal or something.
But cuss word it is not.

No. Words are words and nothing more. Amen, bro. The only things I consider curse words are racist slurs and hate words and phrases used towards homosexuals. But those are more excepted in some parts of this country than other "curse words".

If they put it in school textbooks, and allow it to be spoken on tv without censorship, then it isn't bad.

well bastard was originally the insult of all insults a long time ago due to it's meaning being a child born out of wedlock.
however I guess as the world changed and when more and more and more people actually became bastards the insult kinda disappeared.

It has a proper definition that can be used, but you can't go around calling people that.
