Im sure this has been asked/discussed/answered or whatever. But with as fast as technology grows, couldnt eventually actors be phased out and replaced with CGI?

They already have. Ever heard of PIXAR?
Seriously, I guess, but in the 1950s, people assumed 3-D was the future of cinema, or that in the 70s, people thought hardcore sex would be as normal in mainstream cinema as mcuh as s*** is allowed to be uttered on TV now, and some think theatres will die because of DVD.
Not panning out so far.

I guess theoretically that is possible, however I don't think that it will happen. I mean look at the Star Wars Movies, or even 300. They were over 3/4 CGI so therefore it would be possible. But don't worry, I doubt Max Hedroom will be the next best actor.

When I was watching Ghost Rider, I could have sworn Nick Cage was CGI'd into that movie. Either that or he was mannequin made out of make up

I remember there was a film about a CGI actress named Simone(?). It bombed.

Filming real people is a lot easier than trying to create a person. It won't ever go away.

Filming real people is a lot easier than trying to create a person. It won't ever go away. Yeah but like I said, technology grows REAL fast these days. So in 20 years you never know how easy (and maybe even cheaper) it would be to create someone, instead of hiring someone for five million dollars and having to reshoot scene after scene... And this is alot more realistic then "3-D" or Porno being the future of cinema, I think...

I remember there was a film about a CGI actress named Simone(?). It bombed. SIMONE was about Al Pacino a director creating a movie star...out of literally nothing. Nice idea, but the tricks Niccol tried to use to make the idea credible in our reality was really stretching things. Still, not a bad movie...and yeah, it got fisted in theatres this side of CRUISING.

I just recently decided that I hate CGI. I used to be the biggest advocate for CGI usage but now I can't stand it. In most cases it really takes me completely out of the movie.

That is a great point, even if its CGI molded off body motion work of those actors, but hey...CGI is CGI. I just hope its good*, unlike Zemeckis' last total CGI flick THE POLAR EXPRESS. *=And considering how the movie reportedly is raw in sex and violence, with Crispin Glover going Freddy Krueger on a few poor Scandanavians.....SOLD.

It does smack of fake, doesn't it? There are some places it belongs to enhance special effects. But when you try and synthesize people, it just never works out. You can tell they're el fakerino. There's always some element of "humans don't move like that" that lingers.

What worries me is they pull this "Orville Deadenbacher" shit and bring someone back to life so to speak for a movie
