It is Wilford Brimley's 73rd birthday today! He may have diabeetus and he may have reminded us that Quaker Oatmeal is the right thing to do, but today we pay tribute to the man, the myth and the legend: Wilford Brimley!

He is only 73? Wow, I thought he was at least 10 years older than that.

Why do you know when his birthday is? Who doesn't? It's like a national holiday in my country of... erm... Fleet Street.

I watched "The Thing" and thought that was him in there, but wasn't sure till I read the credits, because he didn't have a mustache. I'm an 80's child, so remember him as "Gus Witherspoon" on "Our House", with Shannon Doherty

Only 73? How old was he in Cocoon? I don't think a guy in his 50's is worthy of a retirement home.

Yes, it seems like Wilford has always been an old man. He's the quintessential old man. Sometimes I think he was born old. The only scene that pops out in my mind of Wilford before he had the white hair and mustache was the part in The Thing where he says "I don't know who to trust" just before they lock him up by himself. That being last thing he says before he turns into a 20 foot monstocity with a mouth growing out of the side of his head.
Which I believe is exactly what happens to you if you let your diabetes get out of control. So remember kids, through good health decisions you can stop the diabeetus.

It's kinda funny in the commercials how sometimes he'll say Diabetes and other times we get Diabeetus. ;D
Anyway, Happy b-day to the oat lovin', diabeetus bustin', jet flyin' son of a gun.
