Radiohead are releasing their new album "In Rainbows" on download from October 10th - and you can choose how much you want to pay. There's a 45p credit card processing charge, but other than that, I reckon most people will choose to pay 0p... ;D

I'll pay for it. They DID do work in recording it and all.
Not much, though.
Note: They are offering a CD with artwork, a vinyl LP and a bonus disc of extra songs/b-sides. Only $80, I believe.
Jed Shaffer ~Yeah, I'll go with the download.

I don't think I'd just say "FU Radiohead" and not pay them for their work. Maybe it's just me, but if they're putting good faith in the fans to be reasonable, I kinda don't want to be a dick to a band whose music I have enjoyed for quite a while (from the release of Pablo Honey to now). Especialyl considering they don't have a record deal, this is all on their budget (as huge as it is, none-the-less).

I don't know what I'll be paying, but I will be paying.
They've provided me hundreds of hours of entertainment listening to their stuff (and seeing them live) and I'm more than willing to give them a fair amount of money to buy a new album I've been waiting for for four years.

I'll pay for the album, but think of all the people who wont. They are going to lose a good bit of money.

Yeah, I think I'll pay regular price as if I bought it in the store.
Considering the difference in the pound and the dollar, of course.

It's so easy for artists to lose money these days. It's sucky.
I would hope fans see they need money to carry on going
Paying $5.00 would be great for all parties.

If they are allowing people to pick their own price for a cd they must not be hurting for money that badly.

Yeah, the other thing people have to remember, if you're going to dick them over and pay nothing but the charges we're never going to get past the point of paying too much for CDs or being bogged down with the god-awful DRM bullshit. If it gets abused, record labels are going to say they need to screw the consumers over to net a profit and we'll be stuck bitching about all the evils of the industry because of our own collective pure stupidity.

If they are allowing people to pick their own price for a cd they must not be hurting for money that badly. Independent bands do this quite a bit. Radiohead isn't under contract with any major lablel (or anyone at all) and it seems like an attempt at stirring up the entire industry to move past the point they're currently at and try to suit the customers needs a bit more than what is currently out there. Considering they're obviously a huge band, they're probably fine in the financial department, but they're likely paying for the studio, recordings, and everything else out of pocket.

I don't know why they did this.
They need money to pay Ed O'Brien for whatever it is he does.

This is an awful idea. People download entire albums without paying to begin with, why wouldn't they now when it's legal?

The fact is the people who were going to DL the album for nothing would do so anyway....without the bands permission or not.
At least this way SOME people might pay a little MORE than the average..out of respect for the fact they would actually do this.

Yeah, but the people like me who are the fence about the issue like me will just download it for free instead of potentially buying it.

But if you wold have never bought the album anyway they aren't losing money. The only was they lose money here is if the people willing to pay for it all along decide not to..and those people; and probably more who just respect they are doing this will probably buy.

Yeah, but I might've. The only CDs I usually download for free are ones I can't find, but this could sway my opinion.
