On a day-to-day basis, how often do you catch yourself saying, "fuhgheddaboutit"? Inquiring minds would like to know.

New York is not as homogenous as other places. I never really say it, others perhaps do.

I've grown up around New York my entire life. With the exception of in movies, I've never heard anyone say it without trying to be funny.

I've grown up around New York my entire life. With the exception of in movies, I've never heard anyone say it without trying to be funny. Ditto that. Though I'm no longer a live-in New Yorker, I'm pretty sure that aside from poking fun at the mobster-stereotype, I've never heard anyone say that. Ever.

Ok, how is it that I hear it everyday? Perhaps you take up residence in or near Bensonhurst or Howard Beach?

I think it might also be local to Long Island. Thats where my Grandparents used to live, and according to my mom, my grandpa, despite being Russian, had a New York accent at times and would say things like that.
