I was thinking about all the great underrated actors out there and was wondering what some of your favs are. My favorite underrated actor (as well as my FAVORITE actor) is William Forsythe, probably best known for his role as Sheriff Wydell in the Devil's Rejects. Here's his IMDb Page: www.imdb.com/name/nm0001235/What about you guys?

Andrew McCarthy: www.imdb.com/name/nm0000530/I find his movies to be very enjoyable; not just the 80's era stuff either, but also the little-known movies he's done since. My favorite movie of all-time is, no joke; Mannequin, so that started my fandom. Oh, btw, nice avatar, MCMGM. You too Rube, actually. Loved Dead Like Me.

So many.
John Lithgow. Gary Oldman (how he does not have an Oscar is beyond me.) Tim Roth.
I will limit myself so as to give others a chance.

Donald Sutherland. His performance in Ordinary People is tremendous, as he had to play the father of the dead son who had to keep his emotions in check for his family as opposed to Mary Tyler Moore who plays the emotionally destroyed mother. MTM's louder performance got the academys attention but Sutherlands' subtle sadness and dispair is so well played. There's a scene in the film, where Sutherland's character finally confronts Moore about why she cared so much about the sweater he was going to wear to their sons funeral that is one of the most quiet, saddest things I have ever seen.

I agree with all of these, but agree very much with Gary Oldman. I LOVE his work, especially when he is a devilishly good bad guy. Problem with that is he plays the role so well, that he sometimes gets saddled with the "one dimensional" acting thing. Which he isn't, he's very versatile.

I think Gary Oldman would get a lot more recognition if he didn't look so radically different all the time in his roles. A lot of people might not even realize it's him half the time, especially in stuff like Hannibal when he's hidden under all that makeup. He's one of the great "That Guy!" actors of our time.

Does Gary Busey count? Because if so, he's my pick, for sure. Also, Danny Trejo.

Richard Thomas (the guy from the Waltons) He's in one of my favorite movies ever, Stalking Laura. He played a psycho stalker that went into a building trying to kill Brooke Shields.

Gary Oldman is one of the twenty best actors of all time, period. And there's reasons why he's not a big name anymore - look up the background of how the film version of "The Conteder" was changed by Hollywood on Google. Downright tragic.
I also consider the fact that Jude Law doesn't have an Oscar to be a crime. I'm not sure that he would be considered underrated, though, as he's been nominated twice.
Other underrated actors: excellent call on whoever put David Morse John Carroll Lynch (watch "Zodiac") Casey Affleck Gillian Anderson (how she didn't get more work post-XF is beyond me) Steve Buscemi

Bill Murray. He's great with Comedies obviously but when it's a more subtle, dramatic role, he's incredible IMO.
