There is no one even remotely like Johnny Cash still around, and I don't think there ever will be.

I'm not a country fan, but there are few who rocked as much as Johnny Cash.
To quote Spin magazine: Asking what makes Johnny Cash cool is like asking what makes water wet.

There is no one even remotely like Johnny Cash still around, and I don't think there ever will be. There are a lot of people like Johnny Cash and there always have been. I love the guy's work, but at the same time, he has become so overrated that it's unbelievable. He wasn't really all that original. I'm not a country fan, but there are few who rocked as much as Johnny Cash. Are you kidding me? How did he "rock" at all? Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, and Little Richard rocked. Johnny Cash did not.

Rocked was perhaps the wrong choice of word. I don't mean rocked in the sense of played rock and roll music. Is ruled better?

Johnny Cash was amazing, but I will never for the life of me understand the whole "ALL MUZIK TODAY SUXKZ" attitude.

Johnny Cash was an all-time great. However, in the time since his passing, he has been overrated.
I must say that before I even knew he'd passed on, I thought the video to 'Hurt' - and the song - were among then greatest, ever though. Certainly in my mind the greatest cover ever.

Oh, and +1 for the 'ALLMUSICSUKZNOW' attitude. EVERYONE thinks that music isn't as good now as when they were a kid. Literally (almost) everyone. You just have to look harder.
However, band names definitely suck more now than they did when I was a yoooof.

He had an amazing life.
His music bores the everloving crap out of me, though.

Yeah, I guess every band has to have some hook to it, or maybe some simpsons reference or pop culture reference. Bands in the past didn't need the pop culture references, with the exception of Blondie but they rocked anyways so that's null.
The biggest offender is Fallout Boy. Naming your band after a 9th tier Simpsons character means your destined to either be either good or crappy. Personally, they've made only 1 song that I like and that's Thnks fr th mmrs or Thansk for the memories. I'm sure I'll warm up to them more, but Arms Race was a pathetic track.

Look into Myles Kennedy. The man is a musical phenom and he's vastly underrated. Currently lead singer / guitar for Alter Bridge, formerly of the Mayfield Four. He does a cover of Buckley's version of Hallelujah that's just killer. He can rock with the best of them, and then pull out the hollowbody and play some blues. Can cover just about any song known to man live in concert. The dude is incredible.

Johnny Cash's "Hurt" is what made the eddie tribute show. That song, coupled with the video praising eddie, That just about pushed me over the edge for full-blown crying.
