Yes, this is the second commercial thread tonight, but I was planning on posting this one before the other appeared. Anyway! Can anybody explain that Old Spice commercial where the gray-haired guy is playing the piano and singing a Duran Duran song about smelling like a sound and being hungry like a wolf, and the women all go "Ahoy"? I mean, I get that "Ahoy" is the slogan and all, but...WHAT? Is there some point to that ad that I'm missing, or is it supposed to be totally insipid? Edit: It seems, after further research, that the guy is Bruce Campbell. That's interesting and all but does nothing to deepen my understanding.

The grey haired man is Bruce Campbell, and he may be the manliest man who ever lived. He is the living example of manliness and also being cool. Since he's being cool and advertising Old Spice, you should buy Old Spice.

It seems, after further research, that the guy is Bruce Campbell. If you "further research," you mean "looking at him." And also if by "insipid," you mean "the greatest commercial for anything ever."

It seems, after further research, that the guy is Bruce Campbell. If you "further research," you mean "looking at him." No, I mean googling. I barely know who Bruce Campbell is. Clearly, I am not the target audience for the ad if they expect their target audience to recognize him on sight.

And all you need to know is that Bruce Campbell is, in all seriousness, the man.

The commercial combines four great things:
1) Bruce Campbell 2) Duran Duran 3) Beautiful women 4) Lounge singing
There isn't much more you need to know. Just go buy some Old Spice already.

There was no script to that commercial. Old Spice said they would come over and film whatever was going on in one of Bruce Campell's various mansions below the surface of the Earth. He said ok and was playing "Hungry Like the Wolf" at the time, in front of many beautiful women. Which he does every day, except they usually don't wear clothes. And he usually wears a cape made of gold.
