I have a bunch of mpg files on my computer that I want to burn onto a DVD so that it will play in a normal DVD player. I have Windows Vista Home Edition which comes with something called Cyberlink DVD Suite. I've looked the thing over and there appears to be no way of making such a DVD with this program. At best all I can do is created a Data DVD which I have since done. One of the options in the program is "Video & Photo" which looks like maybe that is what I want to do but when I click on it nothing happens. From what I can tell in order to use that feature you have to update and updating cost money. The crooks! ThenI remembered I had a program on disc called "DVD Movie Factory 2.0" by Ulead. I had never used it before but figured it would be exactly what I wanted so I installed it. This programmed seemed good. It gives you the ability to make menus and everything. Problem is, when I would go to preview the videos I was adding to my DVD there was no sound. Sure enough, when I burned the DVD the sound was absent. The music I added to the menus however was audible. All the videos have sound when I watched them alone in Windows media Player so it has to be the Movie Factory software that is screwing up. I did a search and found a website that seemed to offer a solution. I followed the instructions posted but one of patches I apparently needed to make it work was no longer available. The official Ulead website says that they no longer offer technical support for the 2.0 version of Movie Factory. As such I figured I'd go in search of another such program for free off the Internet. Even if it was just a trial. I'd take anything if it worked. I ended up downloading 3 or 4 crap programs before getting something called "Movie DVD Maker". It didn't give me the option of creating menus or anything fancy but it worked (sound and all) when I play it in a regular DVD player. Unfortunately many if not all of the videos on the DVD are cut off. That is to say they don't play all the way before jumping to the next one. Why does making a DVD have to be such a huge ordeal? I'm about to just say to hell with it and give up.
So I beg of you . . . What does everyone here use when putting together such DVDs that works? Keep in mind I'm not looking to purchase anything so point me to the free stuff that is tried and true.
