I haven't played either, but Orange Box is the best value for your dollar.
Portal, by all accounts, is worth the price tag by itself. Then you get Half-Life 2, Episode 1, and Team Fortress 2 (which is still buggy). That's a lot.

Honestly I think Mass Effect might be the better buy just for the kind of game it is, but I'm also going on the fact that I've heard the Orange Box version of Half Life 2 isn't very good...and if so that's totally not worth it, simply because of control problems and stuff, and you deserve to play a better version of HL2, 'cause it's a brilliant game.

Orange Box, hands down.
Mass Effect is a good game, but it suffered from not enough development time. With Orange Box you have two great new games, and the greatest First Person Shooter yet made and it's two episodes.
No brainer to me, if there need be a choice.

Mass Effect.
I have both and trust me Mass Effect is better. TOB is a good pickup too though.

Let's see... the latest RPG title from the developers who made two of my favorite games from recent years (KOTOR and Jade Empire) or a "box" containing a three-year-old FPS (a game genre that I generally don't care for) with its expansions/sequels, an online FPS I wouldn't even think about playing and a puzzle game that lasts a few hours (but is at least somewhat interesting)?
Yeah, as you could probably tell, I'd personally get Mass Effect.

Mass Effect. I beat it yesterday and I'm already itching for Mass Effect 2

Either way, 5 games is a better value than one.

I hear a whole plot point was erased that the dialogue tree hinted to because they ran out of time. It's also glitchy.

Either way, 5 games is a better value than one. True, although Bioware's games have quite a lot of gameplay content and replay value as well. I've finished the first KOTOR seven times.

Orange Box.
Mass Effect is a great game, but it's nowhere near what I was expecting. The main story is awesome, but the sidequests are just f***ing boring. Go to boring planet, kill bad guys, find debris and minerals, rinse and repeat. Bleh. All the landable planets are just lame. I wish they had scrapped all of them and just made it more like KOTOR. A handful of fully detailed and story-filled locations > 20 + Meaningless planets with absolutley nothing to do.

Man, that's a tough one. I'm barely, just barely going with Mass Effect. If you have the money try and get both.

All that aside, it is still one of the few reasons I would consider getting a 360, the other being Bioshock. Half-Life 2 is soemthing special. I am not sure about the versions in the Orange box, but I am going to get the PS3 version, as my PCs are both way to clunky to play it, and I need it in my home finally.
