I got yelled at by the boss yesterday. I had an error in one of my articles, which couldn't have come at a worse time. A bunch of reporters and photographers have been screwing up lately and the editors are cracking down on people making mistakes.
Basically, I got called into the office after spending a good six hours waiting to be yelled at. I ended up sitting in the office for all of about two minutes, but it was a slow one.
I worked at my paper for nearly three years and it's not the first time I made a mistake and got yelled at. It happens, but it still sucks when you get yelled at by the boss.
So what stories do all of you have? Can anyone claim that they're so good at their job that they never had to be lectured? Or are we all human and make mistakes? What led to your incidents and what were the outcomes?

At one of my last jobs, I remember my area manager coming into make reports on us and she had a shitty report about me which was completely false and was all BS she'd heard through my manager (who for some reason had a vendetta against me) and I told her straight up, "I'm sorry, but I've worked here for eighteen months and I haven't seen you once and you're apparently our area manager, I don't think you can make a valid report if you're simply using things you've heard from another source, I think as an area manager you should make your own report". That's the only time I've really come into contact badly with a manager.

At my last job, i had a real douche supervisor. He gave me about 10 assignments to do which would normally take about upto two weeks, right before i was going on vacation. I came back from vacation to be told that I was a horrible worker, I took off for religious holidays without giving this bastard enought notice, and thirdly I should loose some weight to perform the job better. I listenened to all that S--- and asked him if he was done, then procceded to knock his lights out. Walked right out no one said anything thing to me, his bitch ass on the floor. No police was ever called, no trouble what so ever. Later i found out this guy quit the job and moved back to Maine, because he was scared I was coming after him.

Here's the situation I am in right now: my immediate boss is out on leave and I now have to deal with her boss (with whom I've locked horns many a time over and been lectured by).
So until at least sometime after first of the year (possibly Feb.), it is me and the new person we hired a few weeks ago. I am doing my work, my boss's work, and supervising the newbie.

I was a very introverted, sensitive 16 yr old, working her first job ever at the local Dairy Queen. I was so nervous that, on my second day, I forgot to sweep the floors in the bathrooms before I started mopping. My supervisor, this lame "lookit me, I'm a manager cause everyone above me got fired" type, chose to wait until I got back into the dining area to yell at me. She chewed me out so badly that I started crying. The only customers there were these told elderly gentlemen who were having sundaes...they felt so bad for me that they called me over and were like "It's ok honey...you're new...everyone makes mistakes...she shouldn't have been so hard on you." They were really sweet Needless to say, I only stayed at that job for 3 weeks...just long enough to make some spending money for the DisneyLand trip I was taking later that summer.

I yell back.
I'm usually pretty quiet and laid back..but I won't tolerate someone talking to me like that..no matter who they are.

Just turn around and stab him in the face. But be careful and make sure your knife doesn't get stuck.

I work in a nursing home in the activities department and have for almost 4 years. My first boss was this Chinese woman who had no clue how to run a department. She would dump paperwork off on the rest of the staff and spend hours on her computer. Since I refused to do paperwork, I got stuck with running the main activities and running errands.
About a month after I started working there, I was asked to go to all the rooms and deliver invitations for a theme dinner we would be having the following month. She told me if the patients weren't in their rooms, to hang the invitation on the wall. So I start delivering my invitations and I get to one room and one of the patients isn't there, so I tape an invitation to the wall on her side of the room.
As I'm leaving she's coming back to her room. She sees the invitation and tells me to get back here. I ask her what's wrong and she tells me to take it down immediately. I take it down, and while I do, I apologise to her and tell her that I was just doing what I was told. So I go on and deliver some more invitations when my boss pages me. She asks me to come back to the office and when I do, she has the lady with her. She then asks me if I taped an invitation to the wall, which I told her I did.
I started to explain what happened, when she tells me to stop talking and listen. She tells me that if a patient doesn't want something taped to their wall, I shouldn't tape it there. I apologise to the patient again and she goes back to her room. I apologise to the boss, and she asks me to close the office door. I close it and she proceeds to flip out, telling me that I need to be more responsible. I ask her what she means and she tells me that I can't tell the patients that I was just doing what i'm told when they get mad. I asked her what I'm supposed to say. She told I'm supposed to "keep your damn mouth shut and just apologise. You don't need to explain yourself. Nobody cares."
She then stormed out, leaving me and one of my co-workers(who was there for the whole thing) sitting there. I started cursing under my breath and walked out, leaving my co-worker there by herself. I had never been so angry in my life. Of course I later calmed down, but at the time, I was trying to dicide whether to slash her tires or pour dirt in her gas tank.

I got tore into for "abusing the work email system."
I was sending a few emails to friends in the office on a Saturday morning after being begged to do overtime. She was fuming. She even snorted like a bull at one point.
So I took a shit in the Boss' Only toilet and didn't flush.

I went out of town to go see No Mercy, and couldn't find someone to cover my shift...
Long story short, I still went out of town, and unfortunately, it was a call center day, which means all three officers were being sent to the one I was working at, so THREE offices didn't have their phone calls answer.
But I got to see Triple H wrestle in three matches !)(@*#)(*@!!!!

But anyways -- I had to have a "meeting" with my general manager and two administrators because I was so nervous that I didn't talk to them all week.
As it turned out, if I just spoke to them right away it would not have been so bad. So word of advice: If you KNOW you are going to get yelled at, do it right away, get it over with. Waiting will only make it worse.

If my boss doesn't scream at one point during the night, I feel that something is wrong.
She literally will throw fits and insult employees that are older than she is. Kicking stuff around like Gozooky, and questioning peoples intelligence.
The classic case of "She's being a bitch for no reason, but is giving me a reason to call her a bitch".
I just laugh at her when she goes on her little defections of mental stability rants when she she uses improper English. Her voice is f***ing annoying to add.
The big boss (her manager) is one of those types that will tear you apart without raising his voice and in a professional manner that still has a way to respect the employee. These are bosses I respect because you understand where they are coming from. I've dealt with these types before and have no problem working with, not for, but with. Which is a concept that some people in power don't get.
I don't mind when people get mad at work and get a little tempered. It's all about they way you handle it. And this chick handles it wrong.
I've seen her completely ignore other employees and talk shit behind their back and laughing about it with other employees.
Get this.....
My car is on the lamb right now and I had to get a ride to work. So the resident brown nose to the bitch in charge gives me a ride to work. When she picks my up AN HOUR AND THIRTY MINUTES EARLY WTF, I get into the van and surprise......my boss is in the passenger seat
Fraterni-mutha f***in-zation between boss and employee is the #2 cause of bullshit at the workplace other than an idiot with power. My job has this in spades.
you know what. let me end this before I throw up.

So word of advice: If you KNOW you are going to get yelled at, do it right away, get it over with. Waiting will only make it worse. Agreed. Furthermore to my last post, I was told that the following Monday morning would involve a "formal meeting." I decided to make a pre-emptive move and at the end of my shift I requested a "quiet word" with the boss. I ended up getting away with it, for want of a better term.
