Ah ok. Unless they take some cost cutting measures. What is the total cost when you factor in marketing anyway? EDIT: Holy crap, 53% on metacritic. Actually 43% currently, which may be lower than Transformers (hardly a critical fave). EDIT: it IS lower than Transformers

I'm afraid this is another fantasy film that I just don't give two craps about - probably because I also haven't read the book - but because the main character is like, eight years old or some shit.
And as such, I don't care about them.
Frodo. Harry Potter. Whoever this girl is.
With the exception of the Narnia books - and it must be said, the allegations I've heard but yet to research that this guy was allegedly compeltely anti-Narnia and wrote these books to try and eliminate Christian subtext from fantasy or some rubbish like that, I hope it isn't true, beacuse if it is, it's just one more reason not to see his movie or read his books - I couldn't care less about a central hero is a kid, immature, or a wuss, and has to get over one or all of these things in order to save the world.
Some kid gets a compass that has the whole world hanging by a thread? I don't care. There's no peril. No way is a kid going to die. And I never could, nor can I now, identify with a central hero like that. I could identify with the evil ferrets and stoats in Brian Jacques novels more than that.
Ahem.
Rant over.

Ahem, Frodo was actually about 40 in the LOTR books. I'll go back to my nerd dungeon.
Although, if it makes you feel better, a kid was slaughtered in "From Dusk Till Dawn." Shocked the hell out of me.

He was still a wuss, and probably immature.
Besides, I hate the LOTR books anyway.
And good! I entirely support kids getting killed in literature. Not gratuitously. But because it's one of few thigns which still has an impact.

Yeah, but the difference here is that this girl is a WAY better actress than Jake Lloyd was, and Lyra is a WAY more well-written character than young Anakin. But of course a lot of people probably won't see that.

The play was breathtaking. I'll go see it, hopefully pretty soon. It's sad that it's running into so many problems; religious issues aside, it is quite extraordinary.

The movie felt like a hodgepodge of popular sci-fi fantasy flicks-parts LOTR,parts Star Wars, parts Narnia, etc. It was well made- but not something I would suggest to others-unless you have some 9 year olds that need babysitting

So for the weekend box office THE GOLDEN COMPASS barely outsold ERAGON by one or two million.
They are screwed. When you are making a obscenely large budgeted family movie for the Christmas season, remember who the demographic is.

Ian McKellen as a Polar Bear was 10 kinds of awesome. That's... fantastic! He's 57 varieties of wicked goodness in a role normally. As a talking, possibly armed polar bear... I think I may have to actually see this (read: for free) at some point.

I hated the books... flat out hated them. I might see the film at the budget cinema, though, and soon, by the sound of it.
