Unfortunately no. They do play Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" ad nauseum until you feel like smashing the radio with a hammer, though. Why have no new Christmas songs came out in the past 20 years? I'm getting really bored with covers... I hear you. I was in the mall a few days ago and I heard a Perry Cumo song remixed. Sacrilege!

It's December. And that means that the Christmas songs that slowly eased their way in around mid-November are now out in full-force. One of the songs that I grew up on, and represents Christmas the most for me, is Fairytale Of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl The song is considered a classic in Ireland, and the UK it seems as well. Whenever there's a countdown of favourite Christmas songs on TV or radio or magazines, it's always either Band Aid or Fairytale. But I've always wondered, is the song popular outside of Ireland and the UK? Have people even heard of it? I'd be surprised if it was. Here's the video, if you never heard of it and want a listen.... ie.youtube.com/watch?v=05Hk7zc4oGsNever heard of it. I am currently sick of "Happiest Christmas Tree" and "I'm gettin' nutin' for Christmas". I don't know who has the job of picking our holiday songs, but they deserve to be shot.
