As reports on the Net detailed, X-FILES 2 started shooting on monday.
Three questions came to mind: (1) Its actually being shot? (2) Who the hell is Xzibit? (3) Who cares about this movie?
But after thinking about it, I think I might reverse myself on #3.
Some of you kids probably were too young to remember or didn't care, but X-FILES was goddamn huge on TV in the 1990s. From a cult show to a mainstream super-hit, people were enthralled with a weekly monster/creature/menace on the loose killing bad actors, and the whole "worldwide evil conspiracy" leaked one bit at a time.
I read that whole "conspiracy" awhile back on wikipedia because I never quite understood what the hell was going on back in the day, and in retrospect....its pretty damn silly about the whole alien colonization or whatever.
Its the fact that the conspiracy wasn't much really, and that the show (plus the first movie) relied so much on this mythology nonsense...I tuned out. Never saw the Series Finale, but apparently it wasn't much either from what folks tell me.
So with the news of a X-FILES sequel, I've pondered on it, and you know what? It might actually be a good idea.
For one thing, its apparently a monster story, so that's good. Hopefully no friggin Mayans or that 2012 sillyness.
Second, since the TV show and the popularity died down, look at the crazy s*** we've been through since then.
The 2000 Presidential election, 9/11, Iraq, Katrina, Guantanamo, the Torture issue, the War on Terror, and the recently destroyed CIA tapes.
Alot of stuff, and potentially it would be interesting to see a X-FILES story set after the new generation of paranoia, corruption, lies, and good ole fashion conspiracies.....I think it could actually be interesting, since X-FILES originally was sparked by Watergate, Vietnam, JFK assassination, and Roswell.

I can answer questions 2 and 3.
Xzibit was a rapper who now does that pimp my ride show.
I care.

I can answer questions 2 and 3. Xzibit was a rapper who now does that pimp my ride show. I care. So he's Ice Cube, but without the acting talent? Anyway, sorry about my "care" statement. A cheap joke, but I am serious that potentially X-FILES 2 could work. Not guaranteed, but the potential is there.

*does 27 backflips* Favorite show of all time, I'm really excited to see Mulder and Scully again. I was a big fan in the first few years, seeing it on friday nights at my grandmother's house...good fun. Though the highlight, I must add, was Bruce Campbell's demon episode, and Peter Boyle's episode with him as a depressed psychic.

Alright, And Raven. Damn skippy. ;D *does 27 backflips* Favorite show of all time, I'm really excited to see Mulder and Scully again. Though the highlight, I must add, was Bruce Campbell's demon episode, and Peter Boyle's episode with him as a depressed psychic. Peter Boyle's episode was really fantastic. Learning Mulder was going to die of auto-erotic whatever was......weird. Oh, and just to be really anal, the show was around during the whole 2000 election thing. The show ended in 2002.

That's true, but considering how I had initially thought X-FILES died in 2000...opps. Anyway, maybe I should have added 2004 election then. BTW, what did you think of the first movie?

I think the "big huge conspiracy" involved episodes weren't as great as the general wierdness they confronted.

I was about 11 then, so the alien in the film scared the shit out of me.

I can't wait. I'm a little disapointed that I heard it won't pick up where the finale left off and it will be a "lost" tale. But it's cool
And for what it's worth, I have an autographed picture of Jillian Anderson

I think the "big huge conspiracy" involved episodes weren't as great as the general wierdness they confronted. Which is in spite that CSM was a great character. But yeah, all those damn crazy monsters....another I remember vaguely is a guy who created a huge subway nest out of old newspapers, and an episode ends with him at an asylum, slowly licking and pasting a new hive. Or better yet, the infamous incest family episode. Yikes. EDIT - Well, if the "Lost Tale" bit is true, then nevermind all I had said about the past few years.
