So a buzzed from the booze, I was watching the lame Rob Cohen-shot Bruce Lee biopic DRAGON, and I thought...
What BAD Biopics have you seen?

I must be buzzed-er than I thought. Did you just say Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story was lame? Yes, from Rob Cohen, a guy who's has had a mediocre/terrible career. THE FAST & THE FURIOUS STEALTH XXX DRAGON DRAGONHEART Really, amazing how Bruce Lee is biopic material full of great angles to work off on...and Rob Cohen shoots it like a bad action movie. Rubbish.

The Buddy Holly movie starring Gary Busey was pretty bad. It was entertaining I suppose, but it's gotta be one of the most inaccurate biopics ever. The songs even had wrong lyrics.

I'll catch hell for this, but....
Ed Wood.
As a movie, it's fine. As a biopic, it's total garbage, a waste of film and 99% lies.

I loved the film but then realizing how much he glamorized diminished a bit of the charm. As for other bio pics, someone on the boards mentioned a film about Babe Ruth from the 40's or 50's. One scene had him going into a bar and ordering milk ;D.

As already mentioned, The Buddy Holly Story, Ed Wood and Babe. Outside of perhaps Wood for the performances alone, those aren't wonderful moving pictures.
Bound for Glory, the Woody Guthrie film starring David Carradine was just very odd. Inaccuracies aside, there was still many things wrong with it, as Woody coming across as the ultimate backwoods unintelligent hillbilly hobo ever known.
Walk the Line...that should be pretty obvious.

I loved the film but then realizing how much he glamorized diminished a bit of the charm. Part of that can be blamed on Tim Burton, part of it on the screenwriters, part of it on Rudolph Gray's book "Nightmare in Ecstasy" and part on Wood's old cronies. When the cult of Wood started forming shortly after his death, his old buddies came out of the woodworks and most at least partially fabricated tale after tale, not only to make his status grow, but to also keep themselves in the limelight. Gray then wrote a book using interviews from all of them, and the screenwriters adapted the book into what would become the film ED WOOD. Before filming, the screenwriters learned how off-base much of the movie was from fact and wanted to change it, but Burton told them that he wanted to film EXACTLY what they had first turned in to him. Bela wrestling the octopus? Never happened. That was a stuntman. The octopus theft from Republic Pictures? Never happened. They rented it, and the reason they didn't have the motor to make it work is because they couldn't afford it. Wood appearing in public in drag? Outside of actually shooting GLEN OR GLENDA? Never happened. Wood meeting Bela the way he did? Never happened. An agent hooked the two up. The church funding PLAN 9 forcing Wood to change the title from GRAVE ROBBERS FROM OUTER SPACE? Never happened. They didn't care. Ed meeting his wife at Bela's detox? Never happened. Ed meeting Orson Welles at all? Never happened. Bela going on curse-laden rants about Karloff? Never happened. Bela respected and admired Karloff, or at least, never spoke ill of him to others. Ed finding Tor Johnson and helping him break into acting? Never happened. Tor was already acting almost 20 years before meeting Wood. Wood thinking he was getting Loretta King to fund the entire picture? Never happened. The riot at BRIDE's theatrical showing? Never happened. PLAN 9 having a gala premiere? Never happened. Tor being baptised in a swimming pool? Okay, that DID happen, but it was a publicity stunt.

I'm gonna have to go with the Jimi Hendrix one that came on showtime. That guy in no shape, form or fashion act like hendrix at all. And they weren't allowed to use licensed music if memory serves. It was just horrible.

If anyone counts it, the Jessica Lynch TV movie that aired on NBC a few years ago. Lynch herself has come out and said the events in it were 99% fake. I wouldn't have a problem with this if people hadn't claimed it was undisputed fact at the time. But the king of bad biopics is: JOHN WAYNE as GENGHIS KHAN. In "The Conquerer". Aside from the fact that most of the "Asians" in the film were just Caucasian actors with slanty-eye makeup and fake beards (pretty insulting, really) it also has some of the absolute worst dialogue I've ever heard in my life. Oh, and going after "Ed Wood" for making up events on a site devoted to a completely staged sport? LAAAAMMMMEEE
