I thought Zodiac was actually too much of a movie. Really good, but long sections of it dragged. Yeah, it needed more explosions.

Where is "Zodiac"? That's a movie that definitely needs to be on the list. Agree.

It was a standard thriller movie "Oooh look out, he's in the killer's basment!" scene with no pay-off. And all through the scene, I knew there'd be no pay-off, since they never caught the guy in real life. That made it drag for me. It was a good movie, especially considering the story doesn't lend itself to a nice, neat adaptation. I just thought parts of it dragged, keeping it from being a great movie.

(1) So how can you watch any thriller in general? God forbid most slashers are so predictable...shit, they ARE predictable beat by beat. Hell, a film like CELLULAR, you know what will happen, but its still a nice flick. (2) You're right...it is a type of scene we would expect in a standard thriller, EXCEPT ITS BETTER than one would see in a standard thriller. I mean, you should have heard the audience at my screening gasp when the Zodiac told the woman he was gonna throw her baby out the window, then cut to black. God damn. ZODIAC owns, and David Fincher (and/or Chris Nolan, its debatable) will be remembered as the Kubrick of this cinema epoch.

I haven't seen There Will Be Blood yet because it won't up in the midwest until after the new year but I do know this: Paul Thomas Anderson can do no wrong.

ZODIAC owns, and David Fincher (and/or Chris Nolan, its debatable) will be remembered as the Kubrick of this cinema epoch. I guess, in the end, it was hard for me to get caught up in the "thriller" aspects of the film as I was familiar with the case. I knew the baby didn't get thrown out of the car. I knew the guy didn't die in the basement. I knew Fincher was far too good an artist to pull a "From Hell" and screw wildly with the facts of the case. I should watch it again, but my initial impression of Zodiac was there was just something about it that kept it a shade shy of being "great" for me. I'm not saying it's bad at all. A number of talented people took a story that's almost impossible to make a movie out of (an unsolved case stretching over decades) and made it work well. I'll watch it again.

The Bourne Ultimatum should take its place on that list.
