You know the American Film Institute (AFI), the group who puts out those movie-lists every few years on CBS. Well, here's their official Top 10 for the year of 2007. Which titles do you agree with, and don't agree with?
AFI MOVIES OF THE YEAR-OFFICIAL SELECTIONS
BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY INTO THE WILD JUNO KNOCKED UP MICHAEL CLAYTON NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN RATATOUILLE THE SAVAGES THERE WILL BE BLOOD

I really thought Ratatouille wouldn't go over at all. Disney makes so many of these films and some of them are bound not to work. I didn't watch any of these, but I coulda predicted a couple of them

I don't agree with Ratatouille, mainly because I haven't seen it and don't want to. Going on a hunch and assuming that's not in a specific order, as No Country would be higher up. Juno, haven't seen it, though will, doesn't look to be anything that should be on a top 10 list for the year, while leaving out Zodiac.

You know, I used to abuse and hate on RATATOUILLE, then one day I actually sat down and watched it with my 10 year old nephew. It's actually a neat little movie, and it deserves to be on this list.
It's no brainbuster or thrill ride, but it's a nice story that is not overly Disney.
That, and it sends a good message.

Ratatouille was such a surprising movie to me in how good it actually was. It really makes up for Cars being such a disappointment. As for Juno, I keep hearing wayyyy to many good things about this movie to doubt it's place on the list.

I haven't seen any of those movies yet, but I'll probably see Ratatouille and Knocked Up by the end of the week.
Also, I've heard good things about Into The Wild.

On another note, what does it say when none of the movies I've seen this year made the list? Do I have bad taste? Or is the AFI just made up of a bunch of oldschool, boring old bitties?

I've heard of four of those movies.
And I don't even need to see JUNO to know its going to be a preachy, pretentious load of crap. Just judging by the commercials.

Why do they have Juno up there? Knocked Up was a way better movie about pregnancy than Juno was. Sure, Ellen Page was great, but the rest of the movie was okay at best. I'd replace Juno with either Zodiac or Grindhouse, and then I'd think we have the best movies of the year.

I can't believe "Gone Baby Gone" didn't make the list.

Of the ones I've seen...
-Before the Devil Knows You're Dead was very, VERY good. Ethan Hawke and Albert Finney were exceptional, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman gives maybe his best performance ever.
-Ratatouille was an original idea executed almost perfectly. Great animation, great characters and great voicework, especially Peter O'Toole as the critic.
-Knocked Up was probably the best mix of comedy and story in the last year or so.
-No Country For Old Men is nothing short of a masterpiece. Quite possibly flawless.
Haven't seen Juno yet, probably going later in the week. The first trailer looked pretty good. The second trailer seemed a little too precious for its own good. Will judge after watching.

Where is "Zodiac"? That's a movie that definitely needs to be on the list.

I thought Zodiac was actually too much of a movie. Really good, but long sections of it dragged.
