I can't figure out which version to buy; I need a little help deciding.

Depends on a few things. The price for one (although I think the extended versions are almost the same price now) and if you can sit through an extra half hour to 45 minutes. I did like the extended sequence with Sauramon and Wormtongue and their *spoiler* demise.

Oh Lord. There's a longer version?
LOL
Always buy the extended version. More bang for your buck.

extended, especially the four disc sets. they first two are always the movie, and the second two are always the most detailed "making of..." ever done for a movie

I've got all six proudly sitting in my collection. But the Extended versions are the only ones that matter. They truly made Two Towers (and to a lesser extent Return) a better film with the added content.

Extended. I've seen the entire extended trilogy for about $60, and they are worth it. Fellowship has an extra 30 minutes, and Towers and King both have another 45 or so. They have 4 separate commentaries per volume, and an immensely entertaining documentary. Perhaps the best value you can get for a movie these days,

Extended by far, but I still need to find a 4 hour chunk of time to finally watch Return of the King.

Extended... The Two Towers became one of my favourite movies of all time because of it. The theatrical release was missing "something" and that "something" was in the extended cut. Especially when you learn more about Baromir and Faromir and their father.

Gotta be the Extended's. The extra footage that makes all three movies more complete. The Documentaries that are extensive and really interesting. The cast commentaries are hilarious.
All in all a much better package.

Agreed. The Mouth of Sauron was done very well. Even down to the detail of the horse. That thing was wretched and decayed.

Anyone here sit down yet for a straight-through, no-breaks marathon of the extended trilogy?

Anyone here sit down yet for a straight-through, no-breaks marathon of the extended trilogy? I did. I enjoyed it, but I did feel that I had wasted several hours of my life afterwards... That said , you do get the full emotional impact of it all put together, very moving.

Anyone here sit down yet for a straight-through, no-breaks marathon of the extended trilogy? I did, unfortunately I don't have TT extended. It was quite emotional.

Anyone here sit down yet for a straight-through, no-breaks marathon of the extended trilogy? I would consider that the hardest of hardcore movie marathons. Goddamn, that'd be like 12 hours, eh? No way I could ever devote 12 straight hours to movie watching (as much as I love movies), unless friends and lots and lots of alcohol was involved.

Anyone here sit down yet for a straight-through, no-breaks marathon of the extended trilogy? I have, twice. Was during a time when I was unemployed, and with a lack of an actual life, sat down and enjoyed myself..only getting up to replace disc. The first time, after all three films, watched every piece of bonus on the collected six disc that made up the Appendices. I loves some Lord of the Rings, it's a fabulous experience, no matter where you're at.

Extended. As Kash said, there's important fight scenes that weren't in the theatrical version.

Anyone here sit down yet for a straight-through, no-breaks marathon of the extended trilogy? I tried to Madison, but I got halfway through "The Two Towers" and had to stop.
