Extended either way, then you can just hit skip when the new scenes come on thanks to the booklet. Does seem the movies were made with gen-u-ine love by all involved.

But, didn't the editions that came out last year have both the theatrical and extended in one set? yes, but it doesn't have to documentaries which are really really good

If you can find it for cheap, get the extended.
Otherwise you can survive with the theatrical one.
I don't think I'll ever sit through the whole trilogy anytime soon. As much as I loved the book, anticipated the trilogy and enjoyed most of it (the battles in the TT dragged way way too much for my taste. And tRotK was a bit boring at times), it's one of those "once in a decade" things.

Theatrical. I just really don't want those movies any longer than need be. Randal Graves got it right.

I think I'll rent the theatrical versions tomorrow, and purchase the extended trilogy when I get money.
Either way it's a win beacause of how awesome these movies are.
