The E has done essentially the same angle where Vince singles out and persecuted one star with Austin, Michaels, and now Lashley (man, one of these things is not like the others). Some have predicted that they'll fall back on it again with Cena in a final effort to win him near-universal popularity and adoration. I can see it happening, and I can just see the long title reign being "bad for business" being used as the justification for Vince's vendetta.
So, if this comes to pass, what will your reaction be?

I'm expecting it. I don't watch Raw now so it wouldn't mean that much to me.
And it will fail to get the fans behind Cena. If it came to an actual match at a big event I could see both guys getting booed out of the building.
I believe there's nothing they could ever do to get the fans (as a whole) behind this guy.

I'd laugh that they would be wasting their best talent in a feud as unoriginal and pointless as that would be.

Well, if I'm not mistaken Cornette said that you gotta wait 7 years before you do an angle again. Cena fought with Bischoff about oh TWO years ago and they're still doing a McMahon and Lashley angle. Yeah I'll pass.

Putting John Cena in storylines w/the scenario of being the "underdog" who "overcomes the odds" isn't working.
He ought to be doing signings as well as more entertainment based things in the ring, less wrestling based stuff.

Putting John Cena in storylines w/the scenario of being the "underdog" who "overcomes the odds" isn't working. You know that, and I know that. Or at least, we think we do. Does the WWE know that?

Vince needs to be banned from WWE TV. I don't mean kayfabe banned either. Perhaps if there were a coup d'etat.

They have that storyline going on pretty much non stop since mid-2005... Bischoff-Cena, then Vince-HBK/DX, now Vince-Lashley.
How many more "evil boss vs babykissing face" feuds do we have to endure before they realize it worked with Austin because it was some kind of novelty and Austin wasn't a gullible goody-goody.
Having a long Vince v Cena storyline would kill what's left of my interest in RAW

This is why sometimes you have to avoid trying to 'give the people what they want to see' all the time. David Simon said it best, if you're always trying to do that you'll end up doing the same thing over and over and over again which is what WWE does right now. People as a whole don't know what's good for em, they'll always pass on the vegetables and opt to eat only dessert but they don't realize it makes them fat. If people knew what was good for them you wouldn't see people getting so fat. Like lots of WWE fans(i'm one of them), they think they want to see McMahon more but they're really sick of them. Or like someone who wants a relationship to work out but don't realize they are sick of the person they're trying to please.

I'll vomit. I like Cena but re-doing the Austin thing would be so inferior to the original would be enough to make me vomit.

That would irreparably damage Cena's face and Vince's heel characters.

Another big reason why McMahon vs. Austin worked so well was because they were complete opposites. McMahon represented complete order and control while Austin represented complete freedom and chaos. In a way, they kind of needed each other. Without McMahon to keep Austin in check, he would've gone on a nihilistic path of destruction. And without Austin, McMahon would've created a static, unchanging WWF that never moved forward.
All the other "boss vs. face" angles lack this element and feel empty. Cena and Lashley care too much what people think of them, especially the fans. Austin never sucked up to them. He let them come along for the ride, but he didn't need them.

Vince was kinda in on it with the Bischoff/Cena feud. I'm already about one step away from finding old editions of Raw from the beginning to around 97-98 en masse to just watch one tape a week. Maybe Nitro. The old F is looking better than the new E every day.
