Myspace Bulletin May 6th, 1:28 PM:
Ian is just now leaving a hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. He went there to see another doctor this morning after there wasn't really anyone on duty over night to give proper diagnosis.
It is a severe eye injury caused by "recklessness" on Freak Show's part. They are sending Ian home today and have arranged for him to see a specialist tomorrow morning in Louisville. They told Ian that he is a lucky man to live in Louisville where they have some of the top surgeons on hand to deal with major injuries.
It is not known right now if it will take surgery to correct but the doctors in Alabama made it seem like it was likely.
I could not even put into words how angry that Ian is about this.
Everyone knows how pig headed and stubborn that Ian is...just like me...and he promised me that he would get his revenge on Freak Show Friday and teach him what the difference is between being a "professional" and a "reckless jackbag that shouldn't be in the ring doing hardcore."
I'm not so sure that it SHOULD come on Friday and we'll have to see what the specialist says tomorrow. If a sliver of the metal did penetrate the eye and surgery is required, there is no way that he can get in there on Friday night.
No one doubts Ian's toughness or his manhood. He doesn't have to get in there this week to get his revenge if it could cost him his eyesight in the long haul. Hopefully he will take some time to regroup and get better and let his friends get his immediate revenge for him.
I'll keep everyone up to speed as soon as I find out about his appointment results tomorrow.
From IWA-MS Message board today:
Ian has returned from the eye specialist and well ladies and gentlemen it is very bad news. It is a tear in his cornea and it will require surgery. It is not known when the surgery will occur right now but Ian will be out of action indefinitely.
Ian made a tearful phone call this morning to the one man that he thought would be perfect to take his place this weekend in Plainfield and Joliet on the shows and begged him to show up and be ready to fight like he has never fought before.
Replacing Ian and fighting for the family name...AXL ROTTEN will be making his long awaited return to action in IWA Mid-South and well folks...Ian's bad day is going to turn into a real bad day for Six Feet Under on Friday night.

Ouch, this is why I just can't support hardcore wrestling like that. You don't need to do that crap to get a crowd going. They get paid probably no more than $100 to almost kill themselves. That's not real wrestling. I hope this serves as a wakeup call for these promotions.
Hasn't RD worked with Ian in the past?

No wrestler should EVER perform a stunt / bump / spot risking even the slightest bit of injury to the eye; any work that even ATTEMPTS to portray damage to eyes is not wrestling, and should be avoided.

I think the main issue is that freakshow went at him with a spike and missed hitting him in the eye, either that or freakshow's a freaking idiot and hit him in the eye on purpose. in either case freakshow's gonna get the living crap beat out of him inside a cage pretty soon.

From f4w online- Larry goodman's report
" (6) Freakshow beat Ian Rotten in a Piñata Death Match by driving a spike into Rotten’s head to get the submission at 10:15. A variety of piñatas were strung on barbed wire above the ring, and a variety of weapons were available in the ring. Freakshow got a pop. So did Rotten, who was chomping his gum to beat the band. Rotten was wrestling with both of his rotator cuffs badly messed up. Rotten wasted no time busting Freakshow up with tack bat shots to the head. Freakshow took a barbed wire bat to Rotten’s arm, and blood was flowing freely from the both of them. Rotten used a nail studded kendo crutch on Freakshow’s gut. Rotten gave Freakshow some palm strikes and his palm was covered in blood. Rotten broke open one of the piñatas, found a boxcutter inside, and used it on Freakshow’s forehead. Freakshow had the crimson mask in full effect. Freakshow ripped at Rotten’s arm with the boxcutter. Freakshow broke a piñata that was filled with salt and light bulbs. He rubbed salt into Rotten’s open wound. Rotten crushed a light bulb into Freakshow’s back and the crowd chanted “Ian.” Rotten bashed Freakshow over the head with a piñata filled with tacks. They traded sick headbutts until Freakshow went down face first. Rotten busted open the last piñata and got pissed when it was empty. Freakshow made the big comeback with a pair of corner splashes and then threw salt into Rotten’s eyes. Rotten held out for a long time before tapping. Knuckles hit the ring to protect Rotten. Freakshow gave Knuckles a full nelson slam and said he wasn’t finished with Rotten. Freakshow took a staple gun to Rotten’s mangled forehead. Younger made the save. Younger started yelling at Freakshow for taking it too far. Freakshow said, “You just call 911 is all I got to say.”
IWA Deep South personnel hustled Rotten out to his SUV with a towel over his forehead. Knuckles and Younger frantically packed up their stuff and took off with Rotten, presumably headed to the ER. "
I was at this show. I was at the show and the match was bullsh*t. This crap made me not want to come back. This is stupidest damn thing to do. Ian helps promote that crap and there were only 100 fans in the entire building and I know quite a few who won't come back next time. My wife and I are most likely not returning as well.
It was a pinata death match. Yes, it was stupider than it sounds. You had 5 pinatas above the ring on a wire and they broke them and used what was inside. one had a boxcutter, thumb tacks, salt, Maybe one had something else. One had candy. (Great Ha ha in a hardcore match. You can take home something to eat with your bloodbourne pathogens and communicable diseases you can get from double juice blood flow.) This wasn't the main event or the only hardcore match on the show. These workers were rubbing salt into open wounds. Not Hardcore, just stupid as hell.
Smark mark Video tapes all of this shows for the blood marks who buy this junk. This match happened shortly after a lighttubes and ladders match. ( Also a double juicer.) If one piece of broken glass or one thumbtack hits me at a show. I would so sue the promotion and if they went under or shut down, I could care less. Irresponsibilty should be punished severely.
What was pathetic is the ignorant folks chanting IWA all the time at show during the match. I can tell you that is sad. Nothing was awesome about the match. Nothing was great. It was a damn car wreck. I will tell you and I am not alone a lot of the fans I talked to think this junk should be illegal and I would agree.
You know they are building to a rematch cause "it was real" and Freak Show stepped over the line. At first, It sure looked like Storyline to me. Mickie and Drake grabbed all the smart mark tapes and she said "I'm not sure I even have a job anymore." If i was wrestling and was injured, I would have called an ambulance and had someone else take my stuff later. Not make me wait to pack everything into a vehicle and then go. Maybe someone needs to talk to some folks in the govt. in Montgomery and send them a DVD to ban this crap from the entire state of Alabama to "help Ian from other workers taking it to far". Naw, don't shut it down, just ban that hardcore garbage. I would much rather see great wrestling, I think i would live just fine if I didn't see another Ian Rotten match.
I will sit my ass at home in Atlanta before I would go see that match again. I wish IWA-DS good luck as they take the attendance down even further each show. Hell, they had Mickie wrestle Larry Sweeney in a waste of Sweeney's talent. Plus it looks like they may turn Sweeney face. Crap.
The best match was Quackenbush and Rinauro and not one thumbtack was in the match, no staple gun, no salt. Comedy, action and drama. If I return, I will have to walk outside the building during the Ian match. It was just wrong.
Fire the booker for that show. Ban the Hardcore crap. I like wrestling and I am not paying ANY more money to watch whatever the hell that ian vs. Show match was on June 5th again.

Great to hear from you, Konga Dave ... even if your comments are regarding a very unfortunate incident. Just reading about what happened sickens me, but honestly, I wouldn't have expected anything different from Ian Rotten. For a nice change of viewing, check out the Dennis Stamp match I mentioned in my PM.

He just chooses to do deathmatches. why? I don't know but he does. now as for freakshow, I don't care what you say because he just seems like another fat hardcore wrestler to me with no talent.

If Ian Rotten can wrestle, I would like to know of the matches in which he utilized those 'non-deathmatch' skills. I'm not saying that for rhetorical effect; I'm serious.
Y'see, a lot of people badmouth Necro Butcher for the same reasons as Ian Rotten. Although Necro has put his body through insane abuse that truly made me cringe and vicariously loathe, I have seen him wrestle good matches against Samoa Joe.

oh and here's more detail as to how it happened from the IWA MS board:
So I talked to Mickie for a bit before and during the show about Ian's injury, exactly HOW it happened. From what she told me, it sounds like this is what happened: Freakshow went to stab Ian in the forehead with the spike, even though he was already bleeding. The spike slipped on the blood, and went into Ian's eye. The reason the surgery can't be done at the moment to get him back into action sooner, is because Ian has a sever sinus infection that makes it impossible to operate without risking his life.
I pretty much figured that no wrestler would stab somebody in the eye on purpose. seems like it was a complete accident with freakshow trying to kayfabe the rest. understandable.

eeesh konga dave don't go on a tangent about the hardcore stuff. yeah you might not like the match but to be mad at someone for trying to turn the thing into an angle is kinda crazy. people have been turning legit injuries into angles for a while now and for this to be turned into an angle shouldn't surprise anyone, espicially considering they were alreading feuding in IWA MS. and don't just knock ian as a bad wrestler too, he can actually pull together good non-deathmatch matches together pretty nicely. He just chooses to do deathmatches. why? I don't know but he does. now as for freakshow, I don't care what you say because he just seems like another fat hardcore wrestler to me with no talent. [/quote] I am not mad about folks trying to turn an injury into an angle. I just really hated the match. After seeing young children picking up thumbtacks at ringside, I guess I might have got a little hot and hated the match more than I should. I don't get the new media thing with wrestlers and promotions working the internet which is silly. (Everything is half shoot, half work. ) Let's expose the business by having Tank and Iceburg sell a whole bunch for Mickie at a show, but we will work the message board for whatever reason. Come on. Just a pet peeve of mine. Maybe the net is the new apter book. I don't get it. Funny thing is Ian's good matches you mentioned all had pretty good to great workers in the match. Hell, Larry Sweeney had a good matcg with Mickie on the same night. She didn't embarrass herself and did ok. Many folks can be carried by great workers. Remember Ric Flair vs. JYD and Ric Flair vs. El Gigante.
