Now before you give me strange looks, watch any WCW show from June 1998 to around June 2000. He was one of the most over wrestlers in the company bar none. Yes he got the TV and Tag Team Titles around this period, but they could have easily given him a U.S. Title run, if only to see if it would work.
What do you guys think?

Because he wasn't Kevin Nash, Goldberg, Hulk Hogan, and others. Konnan didn't get a main event push for the same reason that Benoit, Guerrero, Jericho and others didn't.

Well, to be honest, pre-nWo, Konnan was at a pretty good position in WCW. He was pretty much the top teir luchador, because he was the only one that had broken out of the "Cruiserweight" mode and gotten to a level above that, that being the U.S. Title. Then, the nWo came in, and everybody that wasn't, and most of the guys that were, involved in that storyline got pushed into the background to make room for Hogan, Nash, and Sting.

You mean when he used to come out to the ring in flannel, say the two phrases he knew in Spanish and say "yo, yo, yo let me speak on 'dis" every single week? You really think that was over? I used to flip the channel whenever I saw him, and while I don't have the quarter hour numbers to prove it, I'm pretty sure most other people did too.

You obviously haven't seen Bash at the Beach 1999. It's hilarious to watch Konnan do his usual crappy stuff on the mic and then Rey say "Hootie Hoo" to the delight of no-one. Bobby Duncum Jr is more over than him at that show.

The pre-flannel wearing/nWo member Konnan had a good push in WCW initially. If I remember right, in one of his first WCW matches he won the U.S. title from One Man Gang. After he joined the nWo, he just became repetitive and stale to me.

I can confirm that I did, as well as my other wrestling-watching friends at the time. "Yo, those strawberries say they're 'for life' but the wolfpac is 'forever!" When the two rival nWo factions ceased to exist my friends and I were like, "OK! Now he HAS to start saying something different!!" Nope. His spiel 'changed' to, "Yo, those strawberries say they're 'for life' but the K-Dawg and Rey Rey is 'forever!" Who? Who at the point was saying they were 'for life?' The nWo didn't exist until they brought it back for a brief run in 2000! He was just too lazy to change his opening remark!

Konnan was too busy with his lame monologue, which often included references to "tossing salad" and "peeling potatoes" to be bothered to main event.
In short no one would've bought it, and they were wise not to sell it.

Dude, you're right. From that period that you mentioned he was INSANELY over. I don't really know where it came from either. He wasnt even really in the us title picture during that time. I guess maybe his size had something to do with his lack of push?? Although I really dont know why.
I think he was an ass backstage, I remember some problems between him and Vampiro, along with really alienating most of the mexican wrestlers from the american's with his back and forth drama....

I think we can say the same thing about every wrestler who wasn't nash, hogan, and sting in WCW during the NWO time period as to why they weren't pushed.

You mean when he used to come out to the ring in flannel, say the two phrases he knew in Spanish and say he knows alot more than 2 phrases. In fact, Spanish was his first language. To see it for yourself tune into AAA on Galavision every weekend or watch any past TNA shows with the Spanish audio turned on, he did a lot of funny commentary last year. he was quite over at times, but on screen it was mostly his job to be a cheerleader for whatever faction he was a part of backstage, he was probably more concerned that his luchadores friends were getting a fair shake than getting a program with Hogan so he could be buried You can't say anything it was his size, he's bigger than the Benoit/Malenko/Eddie group. He's the same size as Bret Hart or Sting

Hell when he got to TnA I was expecting something different, yet it's still K-dawg.... Surprised the hell out of me one day to come here and read a surprising amount of Konnan appreciation all of the sudden once LAX stopped getting pushed around by the awesome might that is BOB ARMSTRONG....

He actually had a U.S. title run from early to mid 96 which basically devalued the belt. He pretty much came out of nowhere to win it and he wasn't the least bit over. The fans barely knew who he was and he didn't even have a real character to get into. He was just a luchador walking around with the second most valuable belt in the company. Eventually they were forced to take the belt off him and turn him into a mexican gangster heel. They tried to give him heat off being an nWo member but it wasn't until he was in the Wolfpac that he really got over with his catchphrases.

Man Konnan was terrible. He's ok as the mouthpiece for LAX, but on his own phew.

Backstage politics. That's why he didn't get a push.

his US title run (and he held it for like 4 month!), and yep, he came out of nowhere, beat a big guy like One Man Gang for the belt, yet who did WCW fin to feud with Konnan for the US Belt? Pat Tanaka as El Gato?!
And so as predicted, face Konnan, no one cared, so when Flair cheated to win the belt from him (Flair as US champ?!), he "turned" on the fans, and became a gangsta, and joined the Dungeon of Doom, tagging with Huge Morris, and when no one cared, as he jobbed to the bookers boys like Iaukea and DDP, he turned on Misterio to join NWO, and I too changed the channel on his annoying speeches, but at LEAST he found his persona.

Sadly not looking like Sid Vicious or Scott Steiner was his biggest problem. No matter how great he was U.S. fans were not going to accept him as a main eventer.
BTW I've watched a lot of anime and I still can't figure out who the people are walking through that sig.
