- The CM Punk vs. Elijah Burke match will play a big role in determining their future on the ECW brand. WWE, along with the fans, will look to the quality of the match and their ability to generate heat as a benchmark for how far they can go in the company.
So, will WWE consider Punk/Burke a success?

Not enough restholds

Match was awesome, but the crowd had a mass run to the consession stands and some fans started a boring chant until Punk dove through the ropes onto Burke.
That crowd sucked all night, until it came time to mark out for Cena. So they shouldnt take the crowd into consideration this time. It was one crowd, that just happened to suck.

I doubt it, not enough crowd reaction.

Match was great, but if it is a judge off of crowd reaction that is unfair, because the crowd was awful all night

The crowd chanted for JBL during that match, so I don't think it went over too well with them

I don't think Elijah worked the crowd or even attempted to get any heat from them???

All night it's sounded like this crowd was absolute garbage. If this ended up affecting either of them, just because they were in front of those specific people, that would be ridiculous.

The fans seem more interested in JBL than the match.....
...Damn shame too since the match was great!

Well the crowd did do a silent "This Is Boring!" chant during Benoit/MVP, they just couldn't wait for Batista's next 5-star classic

I have a feeling that guys like Hayes, Rhodes and Trips will like it but, Vince may not with the way the crowd reacted.

Hayes I can see, Rhodes I can see, and I remember it being reported that after Survivor Series HHH became a big Punk fan and said something to the effect that he sees a lot of himself in Punk, and put him over verbally.

Here's what Meltzer said of the match:
Elijah Burke vs. C.M. Page, I mean Punk. They went much longer than you'd think, closing in on 17:00. Way too long for these two and this crowd. They laid out a good match but the execution in sports was real bad. Crowd was up for the finish and for some of the big moves, but they were cold most of the way. I think if you're a fan of Punk you'll say it was good, and if you're not, you'll say this match proved beyond any doubt you were right. Lots of near falls. Japanese style, but a not very good Japanese match.
