So, when the first two One Night Stands played out well, the idea was formed to create an ECW brand.
IIRC, it was originally going to be an internet-only show streamed from WWE.com.
Now what I'm saying is, if it had stayed as an internet-only show, would Vince still have introduced Lashley, Snitsky, Big Show, Hardcore Holly et al to the show? Or would it be exactly as it is now?
Because someone surely thought "hey, we've got a TV slot now, we might as well make it a proper show (IE, kill it)."
It's only a hypothesis.

If it was an internet only show, how the hell would it have made any money?

Vince surely would've infected it with his own guys and ideas. It was it's destiny.

If ECW would've stayed as an internet only show, there is NO way that we would've gotten Big Show, Lashley or possibly Hardcore Holly on the brand as those guys are top guys and Vince would've kept them off the brand until he got a tv slot for the show. That is a very good hypothesis sir.

Had it stayed an Internet Show Stevie Richards would be the ECW Champion. It'd be Stevie Night HeAT times 10.
...ok that's just my personal wish. In all seriousness if it had stayed on the Internet it would've been probably like a way for them to showcase developmental talent and also in some way it'd be like the original ECW in giving relative unknowns a chance to shine...

It was his plan all along. Change it from what it once was, tearing it down with his watered down action and mocking it in its final phases by wearing the belt of the former uber promotion. Bathtard.

Do you people honestly think Vince would allow ECW to be ECW and outshine his product in any way shape or form? If it were a profitless internet exclusive show, that'd be even worse for him.

If it was an internet only show, how the hell would it have made any money? Advertising. The more bandwidth the site brings in the more money they recieve. And if they had ads before and after the stream, which would be broken into each segment, they woulda made big bucks too.

"ECW" was formed because Vince wants to give ECW the long slow death WCW had, so he "Brought it back".

Paul Heyman killed ECW with his bad business sense but we'll let Vince believe he did if it satisfies his ego.

And if they had ads before and after the stream, which would be broken into each segment, they woulda made big bucks too. I suppose. And since it could have been taped before Smackdown or whatever as a regular dark match, it would have been mostly profit, what little of it there was. That said, I have no problem with ECW having a show, because nothing important ever happens on HEAT. Meanwhile, not everything that happens on ECW might mean a lot, but at least guys like Punk, Burke, Thorne and the like can get widespread exposure to people who might catch it on TV but wouldn't watch it on a webcast.

Yeah since the whole point is to put over new talent, what good what it do to develop new talent if people are still just going to ask"who's this guy?" I personally don't think it would have worked as a webcast because old ecw fans wouldn't have liked it, and marks wouldn't have watched it.

WWE using ECW as a name for a brand was like TNA using the NWA belts they used ir for its history. Old fans of the NWA watched TNA and old ECW fans watched ECW.
