That moment ruled watching it live. Yes, it sucks things didn't work out, but keep in mind we need to blame his bad neck and not Vince McMahon.

the sad thing is there were a few times he still got big pops, even after he was kinda a c-list star. (anytime he stood up to Austin during the invasion, when he cut a nasty promo on Al Snow just after the first Tough Enough both spring to mind).
i think it's fair enough that he wanted to step back from it all, but it sucks he never seemed to get into a full swing in the wwf/e despite being close on a few occassions.

A bad neck didn't stop them from pushing Stone Cold to the moon. So, yes, I still blame Vince McMahon. Although, I'm sure Tazz is happy he found a spot. It's still bizarre too look back and go "....Tazz is an announcer."

Question:
Is Tazz an announcer because of that crappy feud with lawler or did they have that feud to set up tazz becoming an announcer?
Which came first the chicken or the egg slash feud?

I've always assumed they gave him the feud with J.R. and Lawler because of the fact he couldn't take real wrestling bumps any more and wouldn't have to facing announcers. The fact it led to a broadcast career was a happy accident.

Tazz went from a bad ass to a bad commentator real quick, didn't he? I used to begin marking when I heard the little windup to his song. I'm glad he's still around, I just miss my ECW human suplex machine FTW Taz.

The bad neck hampered him but the Heel Austin beatings didn't help.

Yeah...it was his bad neck that forced him into a lousy feud with Jerry Lawler, and forced him into being a "thug" who spray painted stuff and also his neck that forced that god awful Cypress Hill song on him. His push was flat long before his neck gave out.

And look at the difference in Angle's physique during his early WWE run and how he looked at the end of it.

He was a midget, unfortunately. I mean, in ECW, somehow, he looked as tough as he was. He looked big, even against Bam Bam Bigelow. He was believable.
But, and this is not WWE's fault, much as I ADORE Tazz and his old persona, he was just too small to get over as a World Champion in WWE. They have so many hosses in their main event these days that someone as short as Tazz just wouldn't be able to pull it off.
P.S. I also think Angle looked better with hair.

I get what you're saying, and unfortunately it does reflect very accurately the sentiments of the WWE. But bear in mind that guys like Kurt Angle (look at the video earlier) aren't that much bigger than Taz. Hell, Benoit wasn no hoss, and he held a World Title, so did Eddie Guerrero, and so did Jericho, who was no hoss. So you'll forgive me if I truly don't buy that whole "He was too small" arguement. No fault of yours, and like I said, I believe your post is accurate according to the thinking of the WWE. But small guys have held the top belt before. Personally, I have rather had a whole SERIES of Angle/Tazz matches or Tazz/Jericho or Tazz/Benoit than one single lumbering hoss/monster match.
