Why do the wrestlers all stomp the mat and stuff when they hit someone? Do wrestlers and promoters think that thats what we think a punch should sound like? Punches dont really make noise...

It's to rile up the crowd, it's the wrestler building up steam.

I hate the obvious leg slap when someone is kicked or something.

I hate the obvious leg slap when someone is kicked or something. Honestly, I never knew that until I saw CM Punk do it.

I hate the obvious leg slap when someone is kicked or something. It's a great sound, though. Especially when Shawn kicked Stan, it sounded like the guy got annihilated.

I've been trying to spot the leg slap for Sweet Chin Music, but I can't seem to find it so blatant... Any matches where it's obvious?

I think he might even slap the other leg so you miss it. Either way, Michaels is a master at it.

Michaels is excellent at concealing it. Just pause a YouTube vid of a SCM and you can see that he slaps the thigh of his kicking leg.

Stomping the mat is more obvious with the old-school guys i feel (like Michaels), or people emulating the old-school (Larry Sweeny, Black Machismo Jay Lethal).
And yes, Michaels is definitely the master of the superkick leg-slap.

I used to wonder how Test made that sound when he did his old running big boot finisher, he concealed it just as well as HBK.

Stevie and Punk are horrible at it. It's like they want people to see it.

British Bulldog was master at stomping the mat whilst stomping/punching. He didn't bother concealing it, he made it look like it gave the move more impact.

The absolute worst is Little Guido/Nunzio. Watch him any time he does a dropkick to someones face and he slaps both his legs in the most obvious way ever.

The most noticeable kick/leg slap i've ever seen was when Randy Orton kicked Foley down those stairs during their feud that built up to Evolution vs Rock n' Sock at WM 20.
