Conventional Wisdom is so damn annoying, Im so sick of people who know nothing about it, telling me, someone who do, that a wrestling ring feels like a trampoline and how its so easy. Thats real disrespectful who the wrestlers who are on the road 300 days a year destroying there bodies everynight in the ring, and ARE amazing athletes. Just because its all predetermined dont mean its not pretty much one of the the (if not, the) hardest lifestyles of ANY entertainer whether they be sports or actors.
For real its just so weird that something thats like, completely wrong is pretty much accepted as fact, but what Im trying to ask, is what made people so sure? I aint never heard of one person saying how they found out "the ring feels like trampoline" or how they just know its so easy. Did anything ever happen that got so many people to believe a "fact" thats REAL wrong? Or is it just people always trying to be negative?

Because it's staged, so in a lot of people's minds, it must be easy. When they know the result beforehand and don't have to actually fight to win, people think it's not hard.

They believe it's a trampoline because they can not conceive how a "fake" sport could carry any amount of danger. I still know people who are convinced anyone could wrestle.

I just had this argument the other day, apparently there are thousands of springs under the ring.

My favorite is "Wrestlers know how to fall," the one that inspired good ol' J.R. to scream shoot "HOW DO YOU LEARN TO FALL OFF A TWENTY FOOT LADDAH!!"

well there's alway the "fact" that you can actually see the "mat" bounce and the ref gets launched into the air everytime someone gets body slammed.
Lol, seriously what makes me laugh is why wrestlers and wrestling fans get so worked up by someone saying wrestling is fake. Even though everyone knows it fake, the wrestlers and fans seem like they have to justify wrestling. Just take it for what it is, the more you get worked up at it, the more people will rip the piss.

I always start asking them to name something on TV that's real. They usually just chuckle and say "good point."

As many casualties as there are in wrestling, you think people would wise up. Yeah, it's fake in that they're not truly fighting. They are however throwing each other around and taking their bumps. The mat might have some cushion, but you can hear it when they land. It's not made of marshmallows or anything.

I just punch them in the face so they can see something "real".

I just tell them that I know, and that I don't care. Then raise the point about tv and films, and that usually shuts them up.

Wait... are you pissed about people thinking that rings are like trampolines, or that they don't accept that they could be wrong under any circumstances?

yes theres lots of physical stuff invovled with it but there really is no competition because everyone in the show is on the same team. so its not looked at as a real sport but a show like a circus. the physical side is only one side of sports. theres a whole other aspect of the determining who is better through pure nature that doesn't exist in the wrasslin business.
yes these men tear there bodies up, but they are always concious and in control of it where real sports the physical impact is random and determined through the primalcy of your opponent and randomness of the game. the physicality in wrestling is created as a direct result of the sufferer's actions so its less respectable.
its all about who has the deadest nerves and strongest will to finish. a guy willing to bump in a 10-15 min match for 200 days a year and never miss a show is what the bus is all about. but pro wrestlers shouldn't be looked at as serious athletes because its all a work brother.

Although a wrestling ring does have a degree of "give" to it, it's by no means a trampoline. If it was, guys would be flying around left and right. Khali would look like Jack Evans.
Come to think of it, a wrestling match on a real trampoline could actually be kinda funny!

As I've said before, wrestling is a strange enigma, as it's something that started real, became staged but promoted as real, then became entirely staged... yet not only continued to exist, it actually thrived at points.
In that, people try to figure out how much of it is actually staged. Most people have seen the foot stomping for punches, the kicks that miss by a mile, stuff like that.... but the only other thing that seems to make sense is that the canvas is a trampoline. Who would want to be thrown on something that hurts dozens upon dozens of times a night? It makes no sense.
So I really doubt it's a disrespect issue with some people... and more of an uninformed opinion.

Media-accepted sports like Football are more fake at times than wrestling. Plus, I never hear people complain about Movies...I mean, what if while watching a movie your buddy goes "You know its all fake and their just actors right?"

yah but if the canvas really is hard and that is the problem, shouldnt they do something about it since they are throwing themselves onto it on purpose?
